View Full Version : Which profession should I choose?
I'm torn between Necromancer and Guardian. Guardians are nice with lots of support, damage mitigation skills, etc. and Necromancers have minions, death shroud, high health, life stealing, etc. It's impossible to choose. Which do you think I should pick? Please answer the poll and leave why you choose the profession you did in the comments (or replies?).

Welcome to the forum! Anyway, when the game comes out, you'll be able to go straight to structured pvp and be boosted right to level 80 right after the tutorial. Then you can see if you like how the profession is at max level, and you can make your decision then. Both of those professions sound just as fun as the other, and if you're interested in both, you can't go wrong! You can always make more than one character!

Sounds to me like the reason you're choosing a profession is high survivability. I guess you hate dying. lol
I see this as more of a difference in play style and image than mechanics. Both classes will give you great survivability so what do you see yourself as?
Are you more like the dark, creepy, blood sucking, curse spouting necro (I know I am), or are you more like the protector, shining out in the dark, fighting to keep those around you safe. Just the names Guardian and Necromancer are a world of difference.
Games like Guild Wars 2 are about more than just mechanics. Each profession has a completely different feel. Within the context of the game itself, virtually all professions have ways to survive and do damage, though I agree, Necro and Guardian are probably the easiest in that area.
I'm both really. In past games, I've been both. I love supporting allies, but I also like the whole minions and stealing health idea.

Did you know you can play a support necro?
Well, you can play any role with any profession, although they do it differently. The guardian's method of support (along with other things, like spirit weapons, wards, etc.) is what pull me to them. The necro way of support, although good, isn't as...intriguing (if that's the word).

I understand what you're mean but I don't think intriguing is the word I would use. I think you mean Compelling (possibly interesting).

Don't know, I love the idea of removing conditions from allies and throwing them back to bad guys...but I can see that it would be different. Why not make two characters...I know I'll be making a ton of them.
Yeah...on all the other games I've played I've been an alt w***e, so I guess I'll do that in GW2, too. I actually want to play ele, necro, guardian, engineer and mesmer, but I wanted only 1 character. But I guess I'll go back to my old ways. I'll fall behind a ton, but w/e xD

Either one is a great class but personally I would choose necromancer. I just like the whole idea of draining health from other people and I love the graphics for lich form.

I think a melee health drain Necro seems like an awesome idea. So I would recommend a Necro for that reason.
Here's the thing: necro's really aren't THAT health draining. In total, there's like 3 or 4 weapon skills that drain health, and that's across, what, 5+ weapons, each with 5 skills? That's not that much, and they can only heal you so much, too.

Nope blood nercos dont steal and keep health, neither do health stealer minions. Ok, SS arent health supressors either.
So Id tell you to play a Guardian. We need more meat shields, for the rest of us Necros.

real men respect other people's choices and don't pick on them... even if they don't agree with them.
(I'm a centaur, not a real man, btw)

I hope Charr don't count as real men from his definition.
