My Turret Build (http://gw2.luna-atra.fr/skills_tool/?lang=en&code=3e9000dqeohenihfkd0uu0aa9aaabakalapbl)
I am hoping that with net shot/net turret and the trait that causes crippling when I net people, I can get good at keeping people away from me, and kiting through my turret farm.

I went with rifle traits and all turret buffing traits after that, tough decision was between turret range and making turrets ground targetted...but that will all depend on the amounts/ranges. If increasing their range makes them able to shoot down off ramparts, or if ground targetting allows me to drop them down at a keep door in the middle of the enemy etc etc.

Do you guys think a pure turret engineer will be viable in PvP?

Defending points in objective based PvP will obviously be fine, however, what about offense? or defending keeps/castles in WvW?

I am concerned about turrets not shooting down over ramparts, or being too easily destroyed, or me feeling overall useless on offense.

Hopefully it is possible to build them quickly enough to be effective on offense or in a skirmish between points/keeps.

Hi Arktek, welcome to this forum. Wouldn't a pure turret engineer make you pretty stationary? I think a pure turret build will cause issues in situations where you're not in an open field or where you have to move around much.

Part of the power of the engineer class is versatility. Part of the "theme" of Guild Wars 2, the principles upon which it is designed is adaptability. Most classes allow you to switch weapons, but the engineer has even more flexiblity.

If you try to lock yourself into a single style of play with ANY class, you will be gimped. This is true for anyone who tries to limit their options.

The best players will be swapping weapons, or in the case of engineers, backpacks and weapons kits, in order to handle varying situations.

No single build is every going to be sufficient, since the game is designed to allow you to adapt. This includes using your dodge ability, mobility in general, positioning and swapping out of weapons.

Why gimp yourself?

I didn't think that creating a turret build was "gimping myself", after all 40 of my 70 trait points are able to be spent buffing turrets so I would assume arenanet is ok with someone being a turret engineer.

I understand that I am missing out on flamethrower kit or bomb kit etc etc by going with turrets, and perhaps I will need to switch when I am going to be attacking a keep. I was just wondering if anyone thought a turret build could be viable on offense.

To Centaur: Yes a turret build will definitely be very stationary, but I am unsure what the cooldowns/build times are, and I understand that you can pick up a turret once it is built to redeploy it. So, similar to TF2 Engineers (for me anyway) I imagine it will be difficult to be good at offense, but possibly still doable depending on those things (cooldowns/build times etc)

Yeah, I know there's a way to pick up your turrets and drop them elsewhere... I hope that will be enough to make this build versatile. And I'm definitely not saying builds with turrets are a bad thing... I was just wondering if you really want to use all your utility skills on turrets. But I guess you won't know for sure how well this works until you've actually tried it...
