Hi there!
i am just wondering which kind of elementalist would deal more dmg:
on paper the 2 daggers have more dps
http://www.gw2tools.com/skills#el;pkfaf;bUgdUaZaaaaagaa;bbaa;ZRWdZ
than a staff
http://www.gw2tools.com/skills#el;aaaaa;aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa;Zaaa;ZRdWZ
(first spell dagger 108 staff 64 dmg)
but the staff has longer range and maybe some other aspects i dont know yet that make this choice more attractive
what i fear is, that you actually loose dps because you wont be able to cast your abilities anytime (low range) and hit only few enemies (more time needed)
so what are your thoughts on this (and my build)
i would really appreciate your help and sry for some mistakes im not native

Well daggers are closer range more single target type skills depending on your attuned attribute, staves on the other hand focus more on AoE type skills, also depends on your attribute. Elementalists can also use scepters and focuses as well, not quite sure what they are specified as in the meaning of AoE vs Single target.
Air Attunement — While active, strikes nearby foes with lightning bolts and gives access to air and lightning skills focusing on single-target high-damage skills or blinding foes.
Earth Attunement — While active, increases the caster's magical protection and gives access to earth skills focusing on defending allies and self.
Fire Attunement — While active, deals fire damage to anyone touching the caster and gives access to fire skills focusing on area-of-effect skills and burning foes.
Water Attunement — While active, heals nearby allies and gives access to water skills focusing on slowing enemies' movement and healing allies.

first of all thx for the quick answer :D
but what are your thoughts in terms of overall dps?
which one clears out more enemies in a set amount of time?
for example if we compare flame touch(182 dmg if not on fire and 45 sec cd) to meteor shower(140 dmg and only 30 sec cd)
the range and the affected area of flame touch are way smaller than meteor shower, so it could be that the meteors do actually more dmg...
i know i know 2 daggers single target staff aoe but my thought was, that 2 daggers (also having aoe but short range) is better for -to say it simple- killing enemies (->higher kill speed, more overall dmg), while staff also has very nice dmg (especially on many enemies) but has also better spells that help groups more...

Hi IIFeanorII, welcome to this forum. You may be overlooking the dynamic nature of both combat and monsters in GW2. How effective any of these two weapon sets is will differ greatly between fights, so things like 'which one clears out more enemies in a set amount of time' don't really work in GW2. Also, each weapon set has some skills that are meant for support... in other words, making your fellow players more effective. How well you do at taking down a certain opponent will also depend on how well you use those, not just at how much direct damage you do yourself.
My advise: once you have access to the game, give both weapon sets a try, learn to adjust to the GW2 playstyle (don't go in with a WoW combat attitude... you probably won't survive the first tough battle), then decide for yourself which weapon set is most effective in which situation.

@Centaur thank you
now i feel kinda ashamed for even asking a question like this (i know one should not reduce a game to numbers...especially when its not released yet :S )
i think ill just do as you said and probably end up with a staff anyway because it looks just way more cool ;D
Imo staff is more support oriented than dual daggers...but it does have the advantage of AoE and range, so if for instance you're fighting groups of weaker mobs, obviously staff will be superior in this case. But yeah, staff seems to have more skills that buff/heal allies or hinder enemies than the dual dagger spec does...so if you're LESS interested in support (though everyone will have to pitch in some) I'd aim for two daggers, or some of the other weapon sets.
