View Full Version : What less popular professions in Gw should return?

Ok, Ive seen threads on other sites about professions such as the paragon, ritualist or dervish. What are the odds of these professions returning/remade in to GW2. How many of you would actually like to see these professions return other than the ones GW has already made?

It's been borderline confirmed that Mesmer is the returning profession. But if your asking what-if, I'd prefer no more old professions. It should be fun having new ones to play around with. Dervish might be hard to do since I don't think there are enchants in GW2, Ritualists would be tricky as well since they tend to be slow paced with spirits and such and Anet want a really fast paced game.
If I had to choose I'd say maybe an Assassin. I've heard warriors are/can-be more DPS based in GW2, so maybe there would be no point.

i would actually prefer the old profession, but i think they should be COMPLETELY remade.the odds of dervish returning are slim, and i do think the next ones we could see returning are mesmer and assasin

Seems to be some hinting at a paragon-esque or paladin-esque warrior type. I'm stoked. I adored playing my paragon.

From what I understand, that paladin-esque warrior type will be the upcoming Guardian (http://www.guildwars2forum.com/threads/508-New-Profession) reveal. We should know more on Thursday...

As for what types should return... well, we already have Warrior, Ranger, Necromancer and Elementalist. There's a lot of hints pointing towards the return of the Mesmer (though I'm really curious what that will be like, without interrupts and hexes).
As for other types... I don't think any of them (Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon or Dervish) will return in their current form, though I'm convinced each of those play styles will return in some form (remember that Jeff Grubb stated "People who play a ritualist or a mesmer or a necromancer or any of the old, old characters, will feel like they have a home somewhere in Guild Wars 2."). I believe the Paragon (support) playstyle will be incorporated in the Guardian, even though the actual playing mechanism will be different... for example, I'm not too sure they will still use shouts.

Right. I don't much care what the mechanic is, so long as the support style (and being able to tailor the support to fit the situation) is there.

...I do kinda hope they keep the angelic theme, though. :redface2:

I really do think the Mesmer will be coming back. It is one of GWs more unique things and it would be a shame to throw it away. That said I have never played one and have a hard time timing myself that well so... :)

The Guardian seems to be (in the hadns of Mr Thackery) a Hammer-wielding warrior with flavour of protection-monk and supportive paragon. At least that's what it reads like to me after 160 or so pages of the book :)

Also capable of wielding a sword, as seen later on in the book (and front cover of the book). I can't wait to see mesmers in GW2, I'm completely clueless on how they will work with no hexes and probably no interrupts.

With the implementation of Fear and other mechanics , mesmers will have plenty of possibilities that are relevant to a profession that messes with other people's minds.

I think it would only make sense for most of the Prophecies campaign professions to return. Though the assassin looks to be a shoe-in after being featured in both novels. If we're getting the guardian this week that leaves us with the assassin, probably the Mesmer, and then one more surprise.

Your exactly right!

I hope the last profession will be something like Dervish.
Not with a scythe but with dual axe or great sword
