I am really, REALLY looking forward to GW2. I read and watch the videos quite a bit. This morning I found myself asking how exactly will Dynamic Events work. I rewatched the Manifesto video and Ree Soesbee said "...you will rescue a village that will stay rescued...". In the DE overview by Colin Johanson there is an entire section written about replayability but it didn't clear up the questions. So my questions are :

I think Ree either mistated or misunderstood what she was trying to convey.

If village A is rescued and stays rescued does that mean that specific event can only occur once and the first group that completes it gets to experience the event?

Will village A be in a constant state of tug of war between being resuced and being overrun and someone has to save them every time?

How often will a specific event occur?

I saw were events would scale based on the number of players attempting it. Does that mean 1 player could complete an event or would events have a minimum player requirement?

Will Guild Wars 2 use a phasing system?

How will you be able to replay an event on a different toon or same toon?

Thanks so much for your answers and insight. I look forward to playing Guild Wars 2 with you!

Shawn:cool:

Did you/do you like Guild Wars 2-name system?

I'd prefer not to be forced into two names...though for some characters I'd keep both. Ruse Torrent would still be Ruse Torrent...but maybe I just want someone to be named a single name, too.

What do you prefer/what do you anticipate they'll do? Considering they've said you can reserve names we know there'll definitely be a two-name option. I'm not holding out much hope for single names, but I'm still crossing my fingers. =/

Ok guys. Here's a sneak peek into the upcoming release of the Guild Wars 2 Forum Blog. I wrote this article earlier today, and figured it would make a good discussion topic for the forum.

If you'd like to learn more about the blog, you may do so here: http://www.guildwars2forum.com/threa...(Coming-Soon)?.

-------------------------------

Guild Wars 2: Revolutionary or Evolutionary?

There's a long running topic in the gaming journalism community concerning games being either revolutionary or evolutionary. When a game releases, does it provide brand new concepts or is it simply improving on systems which came before it? It can be difficult to peg which category a game can fit into. Many times a game will be revolutionary in some areas while evolving in others.

Which leads us to today's topic: From what we've seen so far, is Guild Wars 2 revolutionary or evolutionary?

This article might be a smidge early, as there are many features which have yet to be announced (so stay tuned for updates!). However, we have seen enough of the game to form opinions towards many critical gameplay, story, and graphical elements. The blurry picture is starting to come into focus, and we are beginning to see how many important elements will take shape.

Before proceeding I feel it imperative to tell you that the argument between revolutionary and evolutionary isn't necessarily 'good vs bad'. Many times when something is revolutionary, all sorts of negative consequences can spawn. One need only look at World of Warcraft. There were aspects to that game which completely turned the MMO genre on its head, and sparked a revolution in the genre. By introducing elements to MMO games which provided greater simplicity, and accessibility to newcomers it allowed the game to rule atop the mountain. However, it sparked a formula which led many games to adopting way too similar elements and flood the market with clones.

It's put up or shut up time, so I'll simply say that everything we've seen from Guild Wars 2 looks to be evolutionary.

-------------------

There's more to the article, and if you'd like to read it in its entirety you may do so here: http://www.guildwars2forum.com/blog/?p=9

Most Players like to add some flavor to there armor and in Guild Wars 2 this will be done though a Dye Palette accessed though the hero window's equipment tab. Not all dyes will be available when you first start the game, you will have to go collect them(no information on how as of yet). Once you get a Dye its permanently added to the palette and can be used on your armor. There is 3 different sections/layers to dye per piece of armor, all the same or all different you choose. The coloring is shown on on a character model on the left side of the hero window. Currently there are 96 different colors, from black to wasabi to hot pink and a whole a lot more, they can be sorted by 3 different categories hue, material, set, or you you can right click a color and save it to your favorites

there is not a whole a lot of information about PvP out right now but there is some.

PvP and PvE skills will be balanced separately

WvW is 3 server world battling it out on an open world this is not balanced and you use your PvE char for this, and there are different "Duties" to be done such as resupply, defend, attack, and others yet mentioned. Open world means that if 100 people from server A joins and 150 from B and 300 from C, well then Server C has a good chance to win

You will gain Xp from completing duties and kills in WvW

Structured PvP will be more like the traditional GvG/HA setup and all Chars will be equal (however if this means you have PvE and separate PvP chars has yet been said though, I believe it will be)

i will add more when the data becomes available

OK I think the answer is going to be pretty obvious around here but the article title made me smile. :D

Guild Wars 2 > WoW?

During the Gamescom Guild Wars2 demo, one thing become very clear:
This is not a normal MMORPG.

Traditional MMORPGs require the player to stand in one place and continue hitting the mobs until they die. Guild Wars 2 takes a different approach, playing more like an action RPG than an MMO. Players can cast spells, attack or shoot while dodging incoming attacks. The fluid combat system is one of the groundbreaking game mechanics that Guild Wars 2 showed during Gamescom.

Guild Wars 2 also has dynamic events. Some of your actions may impact all of the players that are playing Guild Wars 2. Leave a village that is under attack, and the next time you pass by there might only be ruins where the village used to be. Unlike World of WarCraft or many other MMOs where there is only one storyline to follow, the story in Guild Wars 2 evolves around the players, and each race and character will have different stories.

The graphics in Guild Wars 2 are eye-popping. This game makes other MMOs look ridiculous. You can directly compare this game’s graphics with some of this generation’s single player RPG, such as Fable 2, or Too Human. The game simply looks amazing. Even with the graphics looking insane, Guild Wars 2 still features massive boss fight, with building size dragon and 40+ player raids.

However, the question remains: Can Guild Wars 2 be the real WoW-Killer?
No, I don’t think that is realistic. Even without a subscription fee, it’s still going to be hard for Guild Wars 2 to be a WoW-Killer. With 11 million+ users around the world, World of WarCraft is a goliath institution. Also, many WoW players’ computers can handle WoW, but not other high-end PC games, and possibly not Guild Wars 2. Nevertheless, Guild Wars 2 can definitely take a huge chunk of market away from WoW with the correct marketing strategy. I believe the main reason ArenaNet has not announced a release date for Guild Wars 2 is to make sure the game does not release during the same time frame as the new WoW Expansion: Cataclysm.

Will this MMO finally be the one to really challenge WoW?
Only time will tell.

Has any more details about the death system been released?

Only asking because it seems like they are trying the approach 2K games and what not tried with Borderlands where, when your HP hits 0 you get a new health bar the depletes at a rather fast pace but still allows you to attack and or be rescued by another player, equally if you manage to kill an enemy you comeback being able to use all your normal skills and with a small amount of Hp left, but the biggest thing I'm wondering is would GW2 pose a limit on how many times you can go down but not out in a certain time frame.

Does anyone know how leveling with work in GW2? I hate leveling and I have played EverQuest and World of Warcraft from 1999 till this year and I have to say I am so sick of leveling. I really like MMORPGs but I need one that does not make you level.

It would be nice it they kept the level cap at 20 like GW1 and the FPS PlanetSide. After all you do not have to have the level cap keep going up just to add new stuff to the game.

Why can't someone make a MMORPG like a FPS so you can log on and have fun then log off. Take out the boring level grind and let players run together.
