People seem to talk about it here....that certain servers are RP servers and that people RP all the time...what exactly does that mean. What is RPing exactly and how do you do it? I'm really having a hard time picturing what that's all about.

Roleplaying is simply acting out a story with your characters. It has a pretty wide range - from folks who have detailed past histories of their characters and want to act out stories they have thought up themselves with other like-minded folks to merely responding to things in game as your character would see them.Quote:

That's a good description Bonnie. I started RPing pen and paper, and my whole angle on RP is quite different, since I would rather voice RP than type RP, but yeah, you pretty much summed it up.
You have to make a distinction between what you know and what your character knows. I mean, I know that Zhaitan is going to die..but my character doesn't. In fact, I know most of the events in the game, but when I'm in character, it doesn't matter, because my character doesn't.
It makes the game more fun for me.
agree with bonnie and vayne, pretty much goes down to seperating what the character knows from what ou know, and what motivates your character to do stuff. the game kind of spoon feeds you a ruff idea when you create your character (norn's seek adventure to tell off at the meeds, death in battle, asura seek knowledge of everything, but then you can create your own reason for stuff, you hate jormag because his minions froze your brother and you seek a cure so you search the world for it.
Interesting...sometimes we have people jump into WvW and say things like (names made up) "Ulmag Greyfirst is here to lend his sword. Where is my aid needed" and I'm like ummm..."dude just get to bay and bring supply"...but generally you dont see it that often in WvW. From now on I'll respond in the same way along the lines of "Great Ulmag, you have arrived just in time. There are many foes that must be vanquished and may asses for us to break our foot off in. Come great warrior, let us defeat these invaders and make them cry salty tears in their mothers basements. FOR NARNIA!!!"
Btw, its funny how we all operate differently. I couldn't get into this at all...but for some reason can't roll an alt; I am the character I created, and I only want to play that one character. So maybe I'm a strange type of role player.
I don't know. Most roleplayers have boatloads of alts....because we don't just change our character. Like I have an engineer who loves to blow things up, and a different engineer who's basically more into alchemy. I could do both on the same engineer, of course, but that's not really how RP works. I've been a salesman and I've been a writer, but I don't usually bounce back and forth between them like changing socks. lolQuote:

character self personification - you created a character you identify with and so the choices he made in the game are the choices you would have made if it was really you (if that makes sense). The fact you couldn't get into it means that you felt that the story been played isn't something your character (you) would normally choose to do ( I so wanted to decapitate Treihern). if that makes sense lol
