Racial Starting Areas

They won't be able to be there from the very start (which is the tutorial), but yes, as soon as you're out of the tutorial, your friends can join you and team up with you to experience your personal story events (though the choices made in these events will only apply to you, and not to your friends).

I want to play as a Norn but my best friend will most likely be a Charr. I hope this doesn't stop us from hanging out together at earlier levels, though. Can we hang out, quest or hunt together as soon as we are level 2 or something? I mean, being with each other, progress and all? Is it a possibilty? I hope so.

Also, I think you'll need to go through the tutorial for your race, which will leave you closer to level 10 if I remember correctly. I may be wrong though

Winterbay, this time you're wrong... you'll probably be around level 10 before you leave the racial starting area, but the actual tutorial will not last much more than 1 level.

Here's a recent quote from Colin Johanson:

We have kind of a dedicated newbie zone when you get out of the tutorial, that’s like your level 2 to 5 content.

Colin also stated that you would be able to enter World vs World pvp at level 2, as soon as you're out of the tutorial.

As soon as you're in that newbie zone (the racial starting area), you are in the wide open persistent world, and you can meet other people... even people who started off as another race.

Hi Ephraim, welcome to these forums. To answer your question, yes, ArenaNet have stated that, as soon as you're out of the tutorial (approx. level 2) you will be placed in your race-related starting area in the persistent world with everyone else. This starting area will be in or near the major city for your race. You have absolutely no obligation to do the quests in your starting area before you are able to use the asura gate in that city. So if you want, you can travel straight to your spouse's starting area once you're out of the tutorial.

I could be wrong but I could have sworn I heard a dev say you'll most likely have to be level 10 before you can travel to a new city.

I dont think it will be a major problem. It has been said that all starting areas specific to race will be near a major city. So that way you can meet up with friends or guildies. I personally think the industrial charr starting area looks awesome.
