Thread: No open world PvP means shitty game.

No open world PvP means shitty game.

    Anyone else agree?

It's funny how Anet spends countless years designing this beautiful world only to have it all be strictly PvE. Even though their "goal" was for the game to be PvP oriented.

And then their idea of a "World PvP" is a retarded looking snow map that probably took less than a week to make and is so fucking massive that it takes you 10 minutes to just run where the battle is because there are no mounts and no closer waypoints scattered across the map.

It seems to me that a lot of MMO devs recently are trying to kill PvP from the MMO genre. Diablo 3 did away with the ability to hostile other players and now GW2 has no open world PvP.

When you cater to the casual player, you will lose the hardcore players. It's a damn shame. Now I have to wait for the Elder Scrolls Online and see if it will be good.

The one thing I do like is the structured PvP, though. They did a good job on that but it doesn't allow you to gain any sort of exp points or rewards for your characters.

Anyone know if you can get a refund back?

    edit:

    Got my refund back.

I hope you guys all enjoy this game. Like I said, it's not a completely horrible game and I'm sure there are some people on here who like it very much. As for me, it's much too casual for my taste. Good luck to you all and I'll see you in TES Online.

You do achieve rewards and you get glory ranks in SPvP the difference is the rewards are mostly cosmetic so you stand apart by looking bad ass instead of getting better gear so you can face roll people.

If you could just instantly port back to a fight every time you died in WvW it would just be a huge zerg fest. The penalty of having to run back means you need to use some strategy and it also allows for keeps to be taken because people aren't constantly respawning right there.

By keeping PvP completely separate from PvE we are actually seeing players assist each for the first time in a long time. You really need to spend more than ten minutes looking at something before you rage like this, it's very annoying.

I actually like that people such as OP aren't going to spend time gw2's community. Anet wanted to focus on the helpful and coopverative aspect of the game. Open world pvp would neglect this cause. It's simply brilliant.

I agree with what you said there as well. Also this gives you the ability to explore the whole world and every area where it isn't just for one race and to be honest the WvWvW is freaking huge. I can't see your logic.

I gave up on serious PvP through Anet when they released EotN for GW1, it's clear they changed focus through the evolution of that game and it's expansions, but I think it's way to early to write off GW2...it actually kind of confuses me that many are so quick to do so.

Problem is PvE is where the cash is, it's by far the more popular playstyle and keeps more of the player base playing longer. This was raised in the Nightfall special edition DVD.On that DVD Anet said they wanted to work in cycles for their expansions (in GW1) as in release one that was mainly PvE focussed then the next would be PvP and so on.As such EotN should have actually had more PvP content than PvE, which at the time the game desperately needed as the PvP was stale to say the least.

    It had none.

I too dislike that Anet decided to go that way with their PvP but I think if you bought GW2 purely to get into really serious open world PvP from the get-go you kind of gimped yourself as it's pretty clear they wish to cater more to casual players in this regard, all be it that many will exclusively play PvP and take it pretty seriously.

Thing is a good PvP scence takes time to form, it does'nt happen overnight, much more so than PvE.I'd say give it more time before you totally bail.

Since you did ask, no. I couldn't disagree with you more.

If SPvP or WvW does not sate your desire for fighting other players, then it's obvious you should indeed move on to another game. I hope you get a speedy refund.

    On a side note:

Any small amount of research about this game would have revealed the fact that open world PvP was not included.

To the op: are you bitter because you can't go around ganking people 20 levels lower than you?

And can I have your stuff?

That was my thought. The only reasonable reason to have open world PvP is for people that like large scale battles which WvW already offers. The only other reason for it is griefing people which A-Net is trying to discourage in every possible way.
