I'm highly distrustful of microtransactions and companies that employ those. I like how Riot Games is doing it in LoL and ANet in GW2 as well, but I will still scrutinize everything. For instance, I'm not too happy with the merchant/TP thing. It's not a big deal, reall just for lazy people, but I know it is an advantage for serious traders as I used to be in WoW. Usually, they either trade, or they play. But now they can do both at once. Not saying it's bad or should be changed, but it is something I have pondered about, because I mistrust these things.

I love arena net for making it the way they did and I bought this game because of its "PVP" content the two seperate worlds allows a seperation of two diffrent players. I think the structured PVP in this game is fantastic. The scaled pvp allows the game not to turn out like wow. WoW is completely gear based this setup allows it to be skill based. Open world pvp is always fun but you cant scale an entire game so i think arena net made the right call here any way. Could just be me though

Open world PvP isn't important to me. What I do think ANet needs to do is add dueling! Just the ability to have a friendly duel with another player that doesn't actually kill you when you lose would be great. It existed in WoW and I loved it even though I never did PvP. The only problem was you'd get the annoying kid following you around spamming duel requests when you were playing while on the phone or eating breakfast. That's easy to fix though, if a player declines a duel request you can't ask again for five minutes (implemented in the game). Problem solved!

Yes, duelling would be really a nice addition. It's always nice being able to improve your prowess without any consequences.

There was a game once upon a time that I enjoyed a lot, it was called Atlantica Online. It had plenty of tournaments where you could duel other players and got nice drops, cash, weapons etc. Why cant we implement a system similar to that one. They had specially designed areas outside one of the big cities where you could go an apply for the tournament and be matched against someone in a range or -5 +5 levels of yours. It was fun.

Then they create a zone where players from all servers could go and match against each other and have a world champion.

    That could be really nice.

While I wouldn't mind them adding dueling I don't consider that real PvP so it certainly wouldn't fill my need. One simple server that is PvP enabled, you have to flag yourself for PvP before you damage others and once flagged you can attack anyone. Newbie zones are not PvP enabled. No transfers onto the server. Would take them 5 minutes of work, wouldn't hurt anyone already playing and would make a big chunk of people happy.

I love GW2 but it is really suffering from not having real PvP. PvP in a box even a box as big as WvW just isn't the same.

I'm not really sure how it's not the same. I'm not trying to be hard here, I'm really struggling to understand this.

WvW is a PVe zone that allows player PvP. It has all the hallmarks of PVe. Gathering, crafting, even jumping puzzles and a dungeon. It has mobs and dynamic events.

Players can go into WvW and just stay there, level, earn loot, craft and what have you. Other players can attack them, at will. Everyone is flagged. How is this substantively different from open world PvP in other games?

I mean, if it was open world in the rest of the world, as you suggest, it would still be in zones, and each zone would be a box, no?

It's not the same because, in normal world PvP you're always in danger of being attacked. It's not like "I'm gonna go jump in this map and go fight people and then leave when I get bored" it's, constant.

Organic world PvP will always be more exciting than objective based instanced PvP, even when it's on a massive scale like WvW. It's more enganging when you bump into an enemy randomly and then kill them. Then they come back and kill you, then you come back and kill them. Then they bring friends over and they all gang up on you. Then you bring your friends and you overpower them. Then the next thing you know you've got 30 people on each side all battling eachother. No objectives, no rewards, no EXP, just pure PvP for the sake of PvP.

Or being able to take over a quest hub and kill the transportation out of said area, stopping people from questing and being able to escape. It literally forces them to send allies over to take it back. Eventually, you get overrun and forced out. But it's extremely fun to see how long you can hold it and alternatively, it's extremely fun to show up and defend your quest hub and push the invaders out. Again, all with no objective. No rewards, no benefit other than PvP itself.

WvW just cannot simulate this. However, I don't think it's trying to. WvW is far more war-like than open world PvP will ever be. People that are going into WvW expecting "world PvP" need to stop, because they wont find it. It's a new way to PvP entirely.

If you stay in there you can always be attacked. Just make that your world. Take one character and never leave. Then you can always be attacked.

Because those instances are actually not much different than open world zones. They're zones, without overflows. Nothing more, nothing less.

Calling WvW instanced, is like calling the entire game instanced, from my perspective.
