Thread: No open world PvP means shitty game.

WvW is in no way as varied as the regular world. The scenery, the events. Ask yourself, if there was no PvP in the current WvW, and you had to choose to play solely on that zone, or the current regular world, which would you choose, and why?

The only problem was you'd get the annoying kid following you around spamming duel requests when you were playing while on the phone or eating breakfast. That's easy to fix though, if a player declines a duel request you can't ask again for five minutes (implemented in the game). Problem solved!
A "Do you want to duel?" option/invite mechanic in this game, I don't care where or when, would be AWESOME!!!!!

I'd surely want a menu option to disable it if that's not your buzz or your up to other things at the time.

Some of the best times I had in GW1 was playing 1v1 with guildies in larger guilds that were able to challenge each other and set up 1v1 matches.People say it has little merit or consequence in PvP.Bollocks it doesn't.It's perfect for seeing class/build weaknesses and strengths against other builds/classes.

    Even that's irelevant though.It's fun.

This should happen.Well implemented there's no justifiable reason for it not too.

That's a valid point. It's not as large. But within that context, when you're there, for all practical purposes, it's open world PvP. It's just limited to a couple of zones of the game, rather than being in every zone.

Isn't that what the personal arena's coming out are supposed to be like?

It still isn't the same. Those zones don't have nearly the same PvE options that the traditional ones do. You also have hard coded enemies for PvP so there is no freedom and the enemy servers change constantly so there is no sense of community. Everyone is also at level cap which means leveling up in those zones doesn't give you the same feel of progression that leveling in PvE zones do. WvWvW is nothing at all like the feel of world PvP.

My guess would be that you haven't played a game with open world PvP if you really feel these two things are similar because they aren't remotely the same.

Well, obviously you don't want open world pvp for the PvE aspects, but for the PvP aspects. You already have all the PvE aspects in GW2's open world pve. It's just the pvp aspects that are missing, and WvW is the closest you will get to those pvp aspects in GW2.

I've played Rift on a PvP server and I've played WvW. I feel when I play WvW pretty much the same as I did when I played Rift, except there's less griefing.

One thing I didn't like about PvP in world is when higher level people just came to block your progress just to have fun. Sure you could go and get your guild, if they were online and if there were enough of them and if they could be bothered to stop what they were doing, but the truth is, the best times i had in PvP in open world in Rift were much like the best times I've had in WvW, so far.

That is with a small group, hunting. That's it. It might not be the same to you, and I guess it really isn't the same to me. WvW is better, because the ganking isn't as cut and dried. But aside from that, I get pretty much the same feeling from both.

Well, obviously you don't want open world pvp for the PvE aspects, but for the PvP aspects.
I actually do want it for the PvE aspects. The most fun I've ever had in an MMO is when our 80 man guild would do raid content in EQ and get jumped by another guild. The thrill of completing the PvE content while constantly fighting off the enemy guild is a rush like nothing else in MMO. WoW had that feeling at times but since it was so heavily instanced it wasn't very often.

Sitting with a couple friends doing hearts while getting jumped by some random PKers I didn't even know where my enemy and didn't know were coming is going to always be more fun to me than just going into WvWvW and fighting the other teams. The feeling you get from these two styles of PvP are very different. Open world PvP is spontaneous, erratic and completely unpredictable. Sometimes just getting away alive is a huge win you can be proud and pumped up about. You develop real rivalries with other players and you get a much stronger sense of community within your guild and within the server player base. WvWvW doesn't feel the same.

What is a thrill to you, may be a nuisance to someone else...and by "someone else" I think I mean more "casual players", like myself. As a casual player, my time is worth a lot to me. I only get to play on the weekends. I don't want to spend my little time, fighting off jerks who decide to jump me while I'm minding my own business, farming mobs or gathering. If I want a fight while I kill mobs or gather, I'll go to WvWvW, lol. And I do go to WvWvW pretty often - I like PvP in this game...just not when I'm trying to accomplish things in the open world.

I do agree completely. I'm asking for 1 server, not a major change to the game. I realize that world PvP players are the minority. I prefer competition in all aspects of the game, it means a lot more to me when I complete PvE when I know that other players are trying to actively stop me from achieving my goals. A lot of people find that annoying but to me it enhances the gameplay significantly. It honestly is to the point where PvE without the threat of PvP just isn't very fun to me and that is why GW2's choice to not have a specialty server is really limiting my fun. I think they made a great game but PvE just isn't fun enough to keep me entertained without the threat of PvP and the current PvP system is just kind of mediocre. Just a difference in what makes a game fun to different players.

Very few MMOs have released without the option for open world PvP, GW2 is very much the outlier here and it does bother some players.
