There's a super easy to solo Champion in Frostgorge too - some kind of wolf thing, and I managed the Troll too. The main two reasons I fail soloing Champs is either that my brain glitches out from doing the same repetetive commands over and over and it gets confused, or that I accidentally drag it out of its area and it resets. Well, that and that some of them are just too hard to solo.
But yeah, PvP and stuff.
I believe this was discussed earlier in the thread. I don't remember any reason being given for this thought. What's wrong with a free for all?it's pretty impossible to do open world PvP without factions,

Really? You will get killed alot because people will form group because of the protection they offer..hmmm, should I run solo or with 10 of my guildmates, let me think. So when we run into Cariad and he's alone, we're going to beat him sensless...just to the downed state, then let him rez...then beat him again, over and over again until he rage quits. Unles we see somebody else to pick on, then we'll just stomp you. And they you'll want to make a group yourself or quit the game because you cant do anything by yourself. And thus groups will be formed. Or that could just be the concept from the start.

btw, I've done this when fighting solo...feel bad for a player, I'll beat him to the downed state just to tell him "get out of my area" but then let him rez...if he gets it and leaves...I let him be. If he comes at me again...thanks for the badge.
TERA tried that with the whole, waring on guilds and stuff. FFA with potentially thousands of players would just turn into a cluster-cuss. It wouldn't be very much fun for anyone really.
I love world PvP more than any other type of PvP but if I wanted it that badly there are other games I can go play for it.
Free for all PvP worked just fine in DAOC and EQ. I still don't get why people are trying to come up with reasons this wouldn't work when the answer to that is simply if you don't like it don't play it. This suggestion isn't going to hurt anyone. The combination of downleveling in lower level zones, the large world and the ease of travel would make it so you would never run into a situation where you just couldn't play because someone was pking you. Yes you would be better off running with friends but that isn't some flaw in the game, it is a plus.
So how would you pull it off? Am I allowed to be on two different servers for free then? Because lets say I want to do open world PVP AND continue to do WvW in its current format....well how do I go about that? Because that open world server is not going to have a WvW presence...or be any good. So I have to chose between the two.
But anyway, this isn;t any other game, its GW2...I cant even see the names of the other side's players in WvW, because they want to make it very casual friendly I guess. They didn't even make it an OPTIONAL feature..so talking about open world PVP for this game is just moot.
And dont get me wrong, I couldn't care less about if AN actually does this. There are lots of things in this game people can do or not do. I don't do jumping puzzles. Some people don't WvW. If they made a few servers for open world PVP it would just be another choice. I just dont ever see them doing it.
Yes, that is pretty much what it's all about. In fact, what you just described is exactly how WvW currently is, even sPvP to an extent. Run solo in either of those and you'll get ganked by a group, should you bump into one. I would be fine with "getting killed a lot" or I wouldn't play on the PvP server in the first place. The only thing I should point out is that not everyone in this theoretical server will play like your example of the griefing antisocialists, but I think it's the option, or the freedom to do so should one wish to, that is important.
I don't know what TERA has tried or what waring on guilds is. I do know that I never see thousands of players in the same place at once, though. And that many other games have PvP without factions.TERA tried that with the whole, waring on guilds and stuff. FFA with potentially thousands of players would just turn into a cluster-cuss. It wouldn't be very much fun for anyone really.
One reason I could see it not working here is that rewards for killing bosses just aren't high enough to bother with fighting a bunch of people over. They're barely worth it now (in fact not worth it at all unless you're doing it purely for entertainment's sake) so unless Jormag and co are dropping a higher rate of Exotics, or even the occasional Legendary, I wouldn't see it getting much action. And if this was the case, it'd turn into another toxic monopoly where one guild has all the cool stuff... or no one gets anything.
I don't know, this isn't my hypothetical server!
