Thread: Fix for DVD install.

    Fix for DVD install.

If you bought the retail box, brought it home, popped in the DVD, and where then greeted with a screen offering to let you download 200,000 files after installing nothing, you were probably as annoyed as I was.

From browsing the net, this doesn't seem to be an uncommon problem, but I saw no solutions or explanations, other than people saying "Well, that's normal! HAHAHA"

    What you do is:

    1. Cancel the installer (if you are less than 60% done anyway)
1a. If you are feeling paranoid, you can make a backup of the folder from step 2 so you know I'm not trying to waste your time

    2. Delete c:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\ (c:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2 on 64 bit).

    3. Run the installer again from the DVD.

    4. Wait for the DVD installer to install the game. Don't panic when you see it downloading again at first, it just patches the installer briefly. You should, at this point, see a red bar in a different place with no speed indicator, and a very slow to respond progress bar.

You will now only have to download the 2.5GB patch, rather than the 20 GB full game.

    Cheers

Thumbs up This didn't work for me

    Hi all,

When I tried to install the game for the first time yesterday, the installer patched itself a little, then didn't even bother looking at the files on the DVD, it started downloading the whole game. I wanted to play the game last night, and not wait many hours for a 16GB download, so I played and tested some theories, and managed to reduce the download size to only 6-7GB, essentially only the patches from the retail launch.

I blogged a step-by-step guide on how I did it here:

    Thanks
