Personally I find voting in a democracy like choosing between getting kicked or stabbed in the gut. I think it was Neil DeGrasse Tyson who said this, but the biggest flaw in democracy is that it assumes the public is well educated. It's not.

The ad you've shown is certainly well made and I'm sure they'll get great bang for buck from it, but if I was an American I'd be looking back at that ad and wondering "Hang on a minute, what actual reasons did that ad give me to vote for person X".

I know this video is both old and on Aussie politics, but I find it amusingly truthful about the state of politics here.

I was looking at that Perry ad and wondering... and how is he going to finance all that? Is he going to let America's multi-billion dollar debt increase even further?

It's so easy for politicians to ridicule each other and say that the other one did a bad job, but you never see concrete plans on how to improve things within the current budget, because that would mean taking away money elsewhere, and the latter is not a message people want to hear during elections.

    Welcome to politics =D
I'm interested in this guy, simply because of this ad. It's exciting, dramatic.. I'll be looking further into his ideals and stances on things, but I never put too much stock into politicians as the system itself is corrupt as all hell. At least this guy is a bit unique in his debut, this is the first time I'm actually interested to see what he has to say.. Could be the first time I vote as well - and I'm turning 27 in march =P

And that is why actors have a good chance of becoming politicians, I guess...

Perry is just another golalist in a long line of them. He is Obama's replacement, and will carry on the same things the last few have.

The reason I do not like politcal threads, most have no idea what is really going on.

This isn't a political thread as far as viewpoints, more a holy shit look at this ridiculous AD. Not focusing on the content, just how overdone and dramatic it is.

I think that all politicians should have to submit all of their ideas through email to a very plain site where people can look through each one and decide who relates most to them and from there can cast their vote. Only after the election is finished would anyone know whether they voted democrat, republican, independent etc and what race, gender, sexual preference etc they voted for.

The more I hear about Neil deGrasse Tyson the more I like:

One objective reality is that our government doesn’t work, not because we have dysfunctional politicians, but because we have dysfunctional voters. As a scientist and educator, my goal, then, is not to become President and lead a dysfunctional electorate, but to enlighten the electorate so they might choose the right leaders in the first place.

More to the point of the thread, I do agree that the add is pretty damn cool no matter who your vote is going to be cast for. I do however feel that like most Michael Bay films I've seen, behind all the flash there isn't much substance. Not saying Rick Perry has no substance, just saying all the commercial made me want to make an exciting getaway from an advancing robot army more than it made me want to vote.

Anything involving Neil Tyson is incredibly awesome.
