I agree with Saturn. And Amei, I respect very much that you stand your ground even though it would appear the numbers are against you in this thread. I admire people who are willing to openly defend what they believe online, even when they know it will be unpopular.

I will say that I believe the creation of this thread is pushing the issue. A-net wasn't giving any nod to the homosexual community [Homosexual community..kind of funny. An entire population of people who base their personalities so heavily on whom they desire romantically/sexually?]. Rather, the OP wanted to link A-net's Sylvari to the issue.

That said, my best friend is a lesbian, and I've fully supported her without any bias, or grudge, for years. I disagree with the mannerisms and behavior of the homosexual lobby, but have no problem with homosexuals. Before someone decides to roast me for posting that in some ways, I agree with miss Amei here.

It has no business in a MMO. Just like politics or religion does not. If you cant play a game for fun, without injected real world agendas, then the topic should be nulified for the common good.
Its very nature will upset one side of the fence, or the other.

Games like guild wars imply the creation of a world.

A world where noone has any metaphysical beliefs, where noone ever thinks or does anything related to politics, where the subject of love and sex is never a topic seems pretty bland to me. In what multiplayer game is there a conflict that doesn't include politics? I mean, even the most unserious games such as Team Fortress 2 are all about that.

I don't mean to praise love and especially not sex; as it's not something I really value in life, but it seems to be an important matter to a lot of people.

If you're looking for a senseless world where not a single thing matters, play oldschool games where there is practically no story and random settings.

I just fail to see how can you create a world without any politics (Religion might be possible, but it seems unfeasible either. It would be a world where everyone is omniscient about their origins and their purposes???)

If homosexuality is such a bad thing, why do animals do it? it's been around long before the homosapien. If anything the Sylvari understand romance more than any other race in Tyria. They understand that who you love shouldn't be determined by gender but attraction. They weren't designed with breasts and hips to look like they could support child birth, it was to make them look more humanoid. They can't even produce with one another so I don't see the harm in loving your best pal who is the same sex. I don't even know why the fact that other people being able to roleplay as a lesbian, bisexual, asexual, or homosexual has any affect on you unless your roleplaying with them. I'm sure some of you have played The Witcher 2. At the end where you might have confronted dethmold, he had a gay lover in there, even if it was against his will. You can buy prostitutes and have sex with them as much as you want. There's even an actual sex scene with Triss Merigold that shows everything but the male genital in there. Would some people consider that offensive? Probably not a lot of people watching it go on. I'm sure there were some lonely nerds fapping to the entire thing which lasted for a few minutes. So if The Witcher 2 can have prostitudes and somewhat graphic sex scenes, why can't Guild Wars 2 casually acknowledge the fact that in the lore there are people who have had same sex lovers?

I like that games are adding in sexuality. However, they are not shoving it down your throat. You are not forced to make a gay sylvari. From what I can gather from the past 5.25 pages on this topic, almost everyone is okay with this. It's not up in your face like "HEY! I'm here, I'm queer, get used to it!", it was just something the developers mentioned for a few seconds and didn't even go into very much detail about. Saying religion, politics, etc. doesn't belong in mmo's is absurd. If religion wasn't in mmo's, the guardian would most likely not be in Guild Wars 2 as it's more of a holy tank. Politics is one of the major parts of TERA. You can elect people to be the mayor of an area. People these days are just intolerant and don't want real world things in games because it make them "uncomfortable". Well if sexuality makes you uncomfortable should we just make all female characters flat chested and extremely ugly, as well as make male characters flimsy/or fat, gross, and hideous just because people playing the game might find their character sexually attractive? We are not stomping on your agenda, we are just trying to get you to realize that people should be more tolerant of other people's lifestyle choices.

Well despite the fact i agree with the point you're trying to make, saying something can't be wrong because other animals do it is a little flawed. There are MANY things in the Animal kingdom that go on frequently, which if done by a human, would result in that person being sectioned, or locked up for a very long time.

Well over millions of years we successfully evolved from monkey-like animals. It was part of my point that homosexuality has been around long before the human race.

I was a lurker but after reading this thread I joined so I could say a few things.

Amei - Anet isn't pushing sexuality on anyone. They merely stated that it is as common for Sylvari to have same sex romantic relationships as it is for them to have romantic relationships where those involved are of opposing genders. Furthermore if you have a problem with same sex romantic relationships within a role play setting then you are homophobic. You can have homosexual friends and still be homophobic.

Just having the option of same-sex relationships really isn't forcing it on anyone, nor is it trying to have a hidden agenda to push a certain socio-political viewpoint. It's just acknowledging that such things exist and giving players the option to engage in them if they so choose.

I really don't see how, frankly. Well actually I can. Either you have gay friends but don't know they're gay, or you can have openly gay friends and force yourself to be around them even though neither of you likes the other one's company, yet for some idiotic reason you still hang around each other. I don't think it's the same thing as tolerating a person's differing political views; a person's sexuality is a significant aspect of their personal character (and I mean "character" as in their personal traits, not their in-game persona.) If you have objections to something like that, it's really difficult to suggest you're still someone's friend. It's like saying you disapprove of someone's religion. Take South Park for example; would you really call Eric Cartman a friend to the other three protagonists (in particular Kyle) or is he basically that fat little @$$hole the other three put up with?

There are many species that engage in cannibalism, have numerous mating partners and have males that leave the females after mating to raise the offspring by herself. But that's not behavior you'd justify a human doing just 'cause it's seen in nature, would you? The whole "it's natural" argument has a rather noticeable drawback; humans are capable of far more rational behavior and sentient thought. That's part of what makes us human. Granted I think a lot of animals are smarter than we give them credit, but still, they don't have the same degree of intelligence we do. Ergo, I think we can expect human beings in many situations to control their base desires and not act solely on impulse.

Getting back on track, as I said once before, if someone chooses to RP a homosexual in GW2, I think that's their choice and there's nothing wrong with it. Although I would hope that whatever they chose to play, they behave properly and not act like a lecherous pervert to anyone, whether its men or women.
