    DCUO going F2P?

Apparently, it's going F2P this month. Guess Champions Online being f2p was too much of a competition for the subscription model. Here's the tiers and features of 3 types of players in the new model.

Now, the reason I posted the thread is to see if any of you who already played it will come back for some more superpowered smackdown once it goes free.

Yeah, I saw it too. I guess the appeal of lots of new users who might just spend some of they money in the cash shop, is too big of a temptation to resist for many of these mmo companies. Personally, I really dislike the cash shop component that is practically required to get anywhere. Though the advantage is that people can check out the game for free and try if it suits their taste... and if so, become a premium member.

Well , finally we get the ''when'' question answered today, 4:30 PM PST... kinda bad news since it pretty much means it will be another 2-3 weeks till it launches.

Stickam.com is one of (if not the) largest live stream/webcam communities. According to their own website, it has over 8 million members...

I've actually started playing DCUO a bit (I never did when it still required a monthly fee... those are simply not for me), and I have to say, it's remarkable how many aspects the game has that we will see in GW2. Dynamic combat, several different story arcs (based on your initial choices), good graphics, a fairly fast leveling system, a persistent world where, if you do a quest, you get rewarded for participating in it, even if you're not the one making the final kill (and you don't have to be in a party for that)... and a few more. I also like that each character can basically do 2 roles (dps plus one other), though the problem is that changing roles requires you to do a full respec of your character, which costs money every single time. And the skill/power system is quite simple... it could use something like the GW2 trait system to create a bit more differentiation in skills and builds.
I haven't reached level 30 yet (I'm taking my time doing all the side quests and getting as many feats as possible), but the one thing I fear about this game (people who have played it before can probably confirm/deny this), is that it will suddenly stop being interesting once I reach level 30. So far it looks like, once I get there, the only thing left to do is pvp events and battles. No more stories, no more progression... not exacly looking forward to that. Then again, that will be similar in GW2 as well, so I hope the dynamic events, side kicking and WvWvW there will offer enough versatility to keep it interesting after level 80.

There's a hefty gear grind at level 30. I actually do have decent gear, so I still play -- or will, once I get off my Skyrim addiction :P -- but it's a game that really discourages alts. I'm never going to have the energy to make another character viable in that game.
