Talking Gold Guide (9 tips to first gold in guild wars 2)

Making gold in guild wars 2 is easy, just follow this guide and you'll hit your first gold fast.

    1. Sell unidentified dyes. These easily sell for 5 silver to the highest buyer instantly. If you identify them then they are usually worth far less money.

    2. Use all 3 gathering tools right away. You'll see mining, herb, and tree nodes as early as level 2 in this game. So why not have gathering tools from the get go ready to pick up some free money and experience? You'll also get a good chunk of experience for completing daily gathering tasks as well.

    3. Combine identical item types with the mystic forge to get more valuable loot. I'm not just talking about combining four pieces of armor, but an example would be four chest pieces of armor. Stick to combining four blue pieces to create a green one which will usually sell for 10x the cost of a blue on the trading post. Four greens of the same type (not just classified as weapon or armor, but individual type of weapon or armor) will usually result in a yellow of that type which can be worth way more than the four greens used in the combining process. By the time you get to the mystic forge you should already have much more than a gold, but in case you're late to the gold making party this tip will likely help you out.

    4. Sell green gear/weapons for 1 copper less than lowest seller. When selling gear or weapons, especially green or better ones, look at two things: 1. vendor price and 2. price of lowest seller. If the lowest seller price is 2x or greater than the vendor price, simply subtract one copper from that person and list your item at that amount. Otherwise sell the item to the vendor and move on!

    5. Farm and sell on the trading post crafting materials such as weak blood, jute cloth, and small claws. You can find farming spots on YouTube/google, or discover them on your own. If you find an area that drops decent crafting materials, then take your time and clear the whole area once.

    6. Sell what you don't need to craft. You'll end up picking two disciplines and often end up with crafting materials which you'll never use. Sell these on the trading post!

    7. Compare product values before crafting. Before crafting anything, take a look at the trading post to see if anything you make is actually worth something! Why craft just junk that you'll end up selling to the vendor?

    8. Sell white gear to the vendor. There's no point in salvaging white items because more often than not the resulting salvaged items will be worth far less than the cost to salvage plus the money lost by not selling to the vendor.

    9. Complete daily quests. Press the H key to view your character. Then click on the achievements sidebar to view all daily quests. Be sure to complete these each day for massive XP rewards and a chest that contains one mystic coin as well as monetary rewards.

Excellent guide Marku, especially for beginners, thanks.

Just a few additions to your points.

    2. When resource gathering, MF seems to help give you more resources, even low MF. An easy source early on for MF is cooking apple/blueberrys give 4%MF.

    4. On selling, don't always sell 1b below the lowest seller, only most of the time. Here is a example, jute scraps 500000 want to buy at 29b, lowest seller 33b (40 sellers), next seller 34b (23 sellers), next seller 35b (53 sellers) and the next seller 36b (498,000 sellers).

So what price do we sell at? Yes 35b is the correct answer...

    8. Don't sell low level white gear, it often salvages into copper (greatswords can get 2-3 copper), jute scraps (light armour upto 3, thats nearly 1s).

I've never seen a blue or a green sell for more than vendor price on the TP. Most yellows I've seen seem to sell for pretty cheap as well (I've worn nothing but rares since hitting level 35, all purchased off the TP). You're basically telling people to gamble away their money and hope to get something that sells for more than all of the gear they've wasted in the forge.

    This is what I do:
    1-70:
White: Salvage. Whites sell for dirt cheap to NPCs, obviously don't sell on the TP, and generally net you several raw materials for crafting. Keep in mind what you're going to get from the item, if you don't need any more wood, don't salvage staffs or other wood weapons. If you don't need leather, don't salvage medium armor.
Blue: Vendor. These don't sell on the TP, and you get roughly the same amount of salvage material as you would from a white item, however NPCs pay much better for blues.
Green: Save it if it's something you would want to use in the mystic forge. Generally I save any greens that are my armor type, or one of my weapons. Once you get 4 of a kind, transmute them. You'll definitely get a higher level item, and occasionally get a rare. If it's an armor class or weapon you can't use, check the TP, but most likely it will be vendor fodder.
Yellow: Save all your bound yellows for mystic forging. Any unbound yellow that you won't be using sell on the TP.

    71-80:
Salvage everything, the mats that you can get out of items are selling for way more than what NPCs are paying for the base item. Exceptions are good rares, sell those on the TP, save combinations for yourself to make exotics.

    Must be a server thing.

I price-checked a mid-40s yellow that dropped for me last night, and it was selling for less than 2 silver. The other yellows at around the same level were selling for similarly low numbers. Volume will no doubt help, but the numbers I was seeing were only slightly higher than what the NPC vendors were offering for the items in question.

There are just too many on the market.

The Trading Post isn't server specific, it's global.

Yea, like I said in my reply above yours, you won't be making tons of money off mid level yellows. Too many people are plowing through that content and just tossing the stuff up on the TP.

But, that also means you can deck your character out in full rares for cheap. Every 5 or 10 levels get yourself a full set of yellow gear and you'll be well ahead of the curve. And it's cheap.

    serious the TP is global?

Yes it is global, I must have gotten lucky with my rolls on green and yellow items.

    More testing required!

Buy orders is a pretty sweet way to make money through crafting and salvaging at the moment too.
