    Engineer post 80

So far I am loving my eng, he does die a lot because I am speced more for damage but when he is alive he does well.

Turrets are becoming pretty useless, they have some uses but they get blown up really quick vs bosses, they can't evade and most bosses AOE will one shot them.

I am speced for power/crit chance and I use grenades mostly, IMO it does more damage than anything, underwater it destroys things, get the level 30 perk that give you a extra grenade and more distance.

In PVP i must say grenades can own, I can take out 10 people in under 30 seconds from a keep wall, if they move they are hard to hit but the AOE area is decent size.

I use a rifle now just for the extra damage over a pistol, condition damage is not all that great, I can stack 6-7 bleeds myself, now toss in 3-4 other people who can and you hit that 25 cap pretty quick and others stop stacking.

Healing.. I have tried healing, seems decent at it with the elixer gun or med kits, but I have no +healing so it could be better.

One of my fav skills so far is the elite skill that releases 2 dogs to fight for you, they don't live long but they are great for taking on a vet mob or a bunch of small mobs solo, they do pretty good AOE dmg, I took that over the Mortar because you can buy ones in PVP and honestly you won't have much use for it in PVE.

I have finished my story line quest and you get a good level 78 exotic item, so I would not spend much on the trade post on gear until you are done with your quest line.

Over all I really enjoy the engineer, my hands get a bit sore from the grenade spam, but underwater I can turn it on autocast and it destorys anything.

Hope everyone is enjoying the engineer class! No idea how our damage stacks up to other classes, but I crit for 1k pretty often with my rifle if that means anything.

I'm only level 61 and still using turrets including the supply drop. They keep me going okay so far. And they're not bad in dungeons, because I'm not the only one there and the turrets don't get automatically targeted.

Of course, I haven't been in a level 80 area, so now I'm worried I'll have to respec completely when I get there.

Lol, I spent the first week making 4 characters and leveling them to 18, to mess with things before I finally figured out I really liked the engineer in all aspects of the game, WvW, SPvP and PVE, so my engineer is only 29.

But been thinking of this lately during some world events. My turrets just keep getting one shot, or out in WvW, they are just not surviving all of the aoe that goes on. So been trying to decide on what to go with. Right now, I have the healing Turret, Flame Turret and Thumper. Had the rifle for a bit, but got tired of it shooting stuff after I got done with a fight.

So been messing with specs and such, trying to find another route.

Albeit I`m only level 29, I rarely ever use turrets even in PVE or WvW. In WvW I`ve been using elixer B, elixer gun, and rocket boots. So run in pop the elixer B, use the gun to stack bleeds, than rocket out if some heat comes my way works not to bad. For healing I use the med kit. Still die a lot because of crazy ways lol

I also have my engineer post 80.

I am odd in the fact that I don't use any kits unless defending a keep or tower in WvW and need a flamethrower to kill through the doors (a bit unsporting but they have it coming!)
I can't seem to give up my skill slots to kits that I won't use all the time. Switching kits takes my eyes off the battle and gets me killed so I leave them out of play.

I run almost exclusively WvW and PVP now and use the rifle for the net and knockdown ability.
The supply crate elite for the 2 second AoE stun it provides.
Slick shoes for the knock down and then I use its tool belt ability (double movement speed) to get away from enemies when I am crippled. Cripple is a killer in WvW and PVP and that double speed saves my bacon ALOT.
I use Elixer B for extra damage in zerg vs. zerg fights and for speed when chasing down runners plus the tool belt gives a random AoE buff to friends so nice to have.
And last I carry a rocket turret, I use the tool belt ability in every combat as often as it is up and when attacking keeps and towers the tool belt ability splashes damage through the walls always good then when trying to get away from attackers I drop the turret because tab targeting will 50% of the time have them target the turret giving me an extra chance to get away. i found a turret increases my getaway survivability greatly.
When I PvE I switch out slick shoes for rifle turret. Tool belt ability is free dps.

When I catch people mev1 or mev2 I don't hesitate to go on the offensive. My strategy is to shock them by keeping them netted or knocked down for the first 10 seconds of combat breaking morale so they try to run. If they run its over you win.

I run Power Toughness Vitality build for maximum survivability. This leads to long fights when solo due to lack of DPS.

I rarely go solo I usually run around with an elementalist from my guild who uses a build that is made to get into groups of enemies cause lots of knockdowns, bleeds, vulnerabilities, burning then get out back to friendly lines. Our play styles are similar as I like to charge into enemy groups and drop my supply crate on 10 people, generally cause confusion and demoralize. Make people think they are getting flanked or overran so they panic and stop paying attention. Then use slick shoes's tool belt button to get back to friendly lines.

I have lots of survivability and I don't have exotic armor yet or any runes in my armor yet. The runes I want are of the Dolyak for more toughness and vitality for even more survivability. As I change out each piece to elite armor and weapon plus add runes to them I will get even more durable and able to take on more.

Weaknesses: Thieves are a crap shoot if its just a theif I win (unless they are exploiting the invis bug see below), but if I am fighting someone and a theif joins and catches me unaware its rough. Mesmers and thiefs once you down them are difficult to kill off they have very powerful downed abilities. Often I have to leave theives and mesmers alive once downed because their allies will come to their aid and force me to leave.
Weakness due to bug: There is a bug where if you invis in WvW you do not uninvis on enemies screens when you attack like you should. You stay invised (untargetable) dealing damage until the invis would naturally wear off and often even beyond when it would naturally wear off. Some thieves are exploiting this bug to make 100% invisible killing machines. This build is very vulnerable to this exploit as it only has the 5 skill of the rifle to do blind AoE damage.

I love being an engineer and look forward to getting my elite armor/weapons and runing it out just the way I want it.

Oh yeah, my traits are fluid, I have not settled down on what to choose since I run the gambit with turrets, elixers, tools. Must haves for WvW are 50% fall damage reduction, healing abilies recharge at 25% health. All others are undecided.

That was a very informative reply. You gave me alot of great strategies for pvp. I didn't know about dropping Elixir R before you are downed for a better chance to get back up. Currently, i run with pistol and shield but the 4 and 5 skills bore me. So, i think the rifle is going to work its way back into my hands thanks to your tips. I maily use bombs as my dps though. I don't think that will change any time soon. I have gotten rather good with it. My main strategy is to just run around the enemy, trying to get behind them, while dropping bombs. I drop my aoe burn bomb first immediately followed by #5 oil slick aoe. Then I just use #1 repeatedly while working in the confuse/blind as each expires. But i make sure to wait until each effect wears off the enemy before I cast the next. I love Big Ole Bomb as my F4 skill. It is a timed aoe blast that knocks any enemy in the area down. I crack up laughing every time it goes off succcesfully. I think if I add that with those great rifle tips, I can add a few more seconds of the enemy disabled.

I am a post 80 engi and will always love it

My setup is a bit different from most. I run 0/30/25/10/5 Shield/Pistol

Firearms i use Hair trigger (20% reduced CD on pistol abilities) Precise sights (50% chance to cause vun on crit) and (pistol shots pierce.) < makes a world of difference

Inventions: i change this depending on the fight. I can go to a turret build if i so chose or reduce my shield abilities and convert toughness into power. the 25 point also covert healing into power as well

Alchemy: fast acting elixirs. more elixir h = more heals. also

This is my bread and butter on traits. i can't remember the last line, but it seemed more useful than the Explosives line.

Utilities: generally i run with Elixir B up, Bombs/Grenades, Elixir R (not so much for the insta down recovery as the endurance recovery. Come on 4 rolls!?!?)

My gear is a mix of knights and Cleric gear. Both for added conversions to power and i survive a lot more. I can generally take 3 big hits and survive.

My rotation varies on the mob. for the karka it's lol i win already. just pistol shot until they shoot that gooey stuff, reflect it back at them. now they have half to 1/3 life left, poison volley, shield toss, blind. should be dead or darn near dead.

the risen are another thing. I Poison Volley out the gate, Shield toss, blind, Shield push back, explosive shot. place Big ole bomb after push back and if they are melee, they will get hit. then switch to bombs and run away (or in circles until dead)

Currently looking for member for PvE, sPvP and WvW on Stormbluff Isle
