The Continuing Saga of Synsuous or A Singer Adrift on the Seas of Fate

One day, I am is in the Hunting Lodge, sitting on the floor composing a new song while Sentryna, my bodyguard and close friend stands nearby. I am almost trampled on by a stranger who runs all the way through the bar and jumps over me! I accost the interloper and after an apology we begin to converse. Eventually one of the two newcomers notices my lack of shoes and enquires as to why. smiles to myself and decide to have some fun. 'She ate them', I say as I point to my friend.

[man of the red] 'She -ate- them?'
[Sentryna] 'Yes, I did.'
[me] 'With bear sauce.'
[MotR] 'With bear sauce?'
[me] 'Yes, bear sauce.'
[Sentryna] 'It is very tasty.'
[MotR] 'Bear sauce?'
[me] 'Yes. Do you not have bear sauce where you come from? I can assure you, it is most tasty.'
[MotR] 'Do I want to know what bear sauce is?'
[me] 'Well, I do not have any on me, as my friend used the last of it. I can tell you how to make it though. The bears do not mind, to the contrary, they sometimes enjoy it when you extract the sauce.'
[MotR] 'o.O Uhm...no, I do not need to know where bear sauce comes from, ever.'

One day, when Synsuous was standing near the fountain outside the Maiden's Whisper, an Ice Demon suddenly appeared! She screamed for help, fearing for her life! Oddly enough, no one seemed interested in helping her and in the back of her mind, she thought she heard two people debating on whether it was a demon or an elemental.

While she is screaming at the demon and telling it to go away, the demon starts to act strangely, looking around as if to search for a demon. Finally, Sentryna rushes over and begins to attack the demon! The demon starts yelling and Synsuous recognizes the voice as that of Kitten. Somehow, Sentryna's attacking Kitten causes him to change back into his normal form.

Synsuous is still a bit hysterical, but runs over and hugs Kitten. She finally manages to wrestle a portion of the details from Kitten's addled brain: he had purchased a potion from the 'hat lady' and when he drank the potion, he became the Ice Elemental.

The two manage to calm down from the ordeal and Kitten wants to play a game, so they decide to play tag, chasing each other all around the Maiden and the surrounding area. Finally, they are tired and collapse on the platform in the middle of the fountain. All of a sudden, Kitten produces another potion! Synsuous tries to tell him not to drink it, but it is too late. Drinking the potion, he transforms into a large wild boar and tramples Synsuous two or three times. Sentryna rushes over to attack the wild boar but it runs off and Sentryna gives pursuit, leaving behind the unconscious and bleeding Synsuous.

Synsuous surely would have died unnoticed by the fountain, but fortunately, her Goddess appears to save her! She is very upset that her devotee has been injured once again. She quickly heals all of Synsuous' internal injuries and carries her home to rest. While she is tending to Synsuous, she questions her as to the events that had transpired.

Synsuous tells her Goddess all about the Ice Demon, the potion, Kitten and the boar. As she finishes doing so, Kitten enters her bedroom, not having bothered to knock on the door. She questions Kitten about his actions, but Kitten denies everything! Synsuous is hurt and angry! She tries to convince Kitten to tell the truth, but he refuses to do so. One, Synsuous' Goddess, is very angry with Kitten and threatens to harm him if he doesn't tell the truth. Finally, her patience at an end, she shoots Kitten in the leg and he runs off, wounded.

Synsuous is very distraught after Kitten lies about hurting her. She knows he didn't mean to do it, so why couldn't he just have told the truth? She dwells over all of the bad things that have happened to her in the past several months: the rape, all the times she has been attacked and nearly died, her friends being harmed and Aelfred losing an eye...it is all because she is cursed. She realizes that no one will ever believe that she is cursed and that things will just keep getting worse. There is only one way to end this...

Synsuous goes to her room and locks the door. She grabs a dagger and sits on the edge of her bed. For a while, she just sits on the bed and stares at the dagger, her thoughts turning darker and darker. Finally she steels her resolve and slashes at her right wrist with all of her might! A deep gash is left in her wrist and blood spurts everywhere! She tries to hold the dagger in her right hand, but she can't close her it. She falls to the floor crying. As she looses consciousness, her hand clasps at the medallion her Goddess gave her and she thinks briefly of her.

The next thing Synsuous knows, she is lying on the floor and her Goddess is standing over her, glaring at her! She demands to know what has happened. When One discovers that Synsuous did this to herself, she becomes furious! She plucks the dagger from the floor and hurls it into a bedpost, the force of her anger driving it in all the way to the hilt. She tells Synsuous not to move and storms off. Unbeknownst to Synsuous, this will be the last time she ever sees her Goddess.
