The world is full of pain and sorrow.
Life is fleeting and true moments of joy are few and far between.
Happiness is laced with shards of pain.
This one looks better so far. Official forums are usually trash. Mods hand out infractions too liberally, and think they have a "right" to decide for others what is "constructive" or not and it pisses me and many others off. I have bought gems from Anet in the past so I'm paying these power-abusing puke. Too bad, since I was going to buy gems tomorrow.
"Thanks for your money! Oh, by the way you have an infraction even though you don't speak of politics, religion, swear on here, or insult anyone. I'm a mod, who cares if you purchasing the game and gems gives me a paycheck?"
I don't owe them another damn dollar ("damn" hilariously is censored there too! Who writes these censors? Nineteenth century gentry?)
I agree. It's looking quite strange. And I do hope they wake up and realize how many people they are alienating. They need to realize that the official forum is a reflection of the game, the company, and the game community. The image they are portraying right now is not a good one. It's a bad business model, IMO, to hand out infractions and bans like it's going out of style. It's almost like they are running a contest to see which mod can hand out the most infractions. lol It's probably not very smart of them to anger so many of their customers. Yes, the game is great, but there are a lot of people who will see the official forum and get a bad taste in their mouth about Guild Wars 2 because of it. That's just my opinion though, of course. :P
I definantly agree that the forums on the official site seem to be too restrictive to allow the free flow of information that facilitates the nurturing of a community that it needs in the beginning. This site on the other hand has a more lenient moderation and the through this it has grown into a managable site that I feel has a greater topic base and an easier to navigate site map.
I don't even bother.
I could be highly biased but my experience on any "official" gaming forum has usually been bad.Atypically there is no sense of community, very little sense of mutual respect, and a complete lack of banter or wit.
From my experience it's usually a small group of "vets" patting each other on the back about how 1337 they are.
"If your having adventurer problems I feel bad for you son, I dodged 99 arrows till my knee took one"
Jhn 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
The SWTOR forums weren't even as bad since while they'd remove your post for stupid reasons they wouldn't insta-infract you. Those forums were a great source of lulz, which I have documented through many screenshots, and these are only a handful (not all are from gaming forums).
From comparing gaming to the UFC to saying George Lucas knows nothing about Star Wars and claiming the WoW forums are authoritarian when there are obviously worse are just the tip of the iceberg:

And the official forums aren't even a fun place where you can feel safe and relax, as the infraction threat due to arbitrary reasons against a harmless post is too real.
