Thread: What I Think Is A Logical Question

  1. #11
    Actually, a duel between ranger and thief wouldn't be a done deal at al. First, rangers also have options to quick shot, volley (multiple targets at once), etc. Second, the ranger has a pet helping him out, who can considerably hinder the thief. Plus, the thief has fairly low health.
    As for Hazel's point about rangers having guns... it just wouldn't fit. Rangers are a close-to-nature class, they are one with nature and with the spirit world. They don't use any technology at all... including guns.

    Well, they do have harpoon guns for underwater combat, and traps. So it's not that much of a leap to use a rifle. I guess my main reason for pointing them out, is that they can benefit from using a gun, whereas the other 'gunless' professions have no reason to use them.

    Harpoon guns and traps use a spring mechanism, which is still very close to nature. It is a pretty big leap from there to guns. And effectively, I don't think there will be a very big difference between using a longbow or a rifle (or a shortbow vs a pistol). In RL, guns would probably have a longer range, but I doubt there will be much difference in range in GW2.

    Centaur, the little voice in my head did question whether i was right or not, being as i was disagreeing with you. But yeah, i guess you are right.
    My harpoon knowledge is pretty limited, i was just imagining something very 'gun-like'.

    Let's just say that making gunpowder work under water is a lot harder than on land...

    Feeling tired? There's a nap for that.

    OP you are acting as though rifles/pistols were invented w/in 250 yrs of cannons in the real world.... they were not... not even close.

    Cannons were in use by the Chinese around 1000 AD or so. Primary use of fireworks and then translated into military usages.

    The first guns which were muskets appeared in the 15th century... meaning 400+ yrs after the invention of the cannon. handheld pistols were even later than that. and rifles i.e. long guns w/ rifled barrels didnt appear until the 19th century about the 1840s or so. So thats all a far greater time span than that which has elapsed between gw1 and gw2.

    your question isnt really that logical at all when you look at it based on the real world.

    Cannon =/= guns.

    Welcome to these forums, orien... and nice entrance!

    From a strictly technological standpoint the old flintlock guns were unsafe, inaccurate, and pretty unreliable. And don't forget that they took a long time reload. Say a thief shoots at a ranger and misses. Is your money on the guy that takes 20 seconds to reload or the one drawing an arrow?
