I'm too lazy to search so im asking you guys, since the Steal is his greatest ability (is it?) how does it work in PvP? you cant take feathers or some 'environmental weapons' and throw em around...
that sucks -_-

It works the same in pvp as it does in pve... you steal a random ability. Have a look at this TeamQuitter thief analysis where they also comment on the use of Steal in pvp.
Moved this under GW2
I remember some hullabaloo over the slight randomness of this ability, since in PvP you typically don't want random effects. It sounds like fun to me, but then I've always been more about fun > uber efficiency, so.

agree there, i dont want to relay on luck in PvP...But surely sounds like most fun class and probably hardest class too if u want to archive more then fun.
I wouldn't call it his greatest ability. Lets not forget stealth, which isn't unique to thieves but thieves are by far the best at it. Stealth should easily be able to save your life multiple times, especially now that taking damaging doesn't temporarily de-cloak you. Thieves also have some great spike damage so that stealth can be used well offensively as well, but I think my thief will mainly be saving it for running away from 2v1, 3v1, etc.
How effective the steal ability is really depends on it's randomness and the power of the items you take. If you can get an idea of what you're going to steal based on profession (maybe race as well?) and the item is powerful, I'd hardly consider it an underpowered mechanic. It's more of a balance issue than a mechanic one.
didnt mean greatest like his best skill but i know other professions have better ulti ability then theif which i can understand cuz thief is awesome <_<
Last I heard, the devs are reworking steal, so be wary of any older information about it.
Heh, I wonder if in PvP, thieves will be able to steal the pins off of Engineer's grenades. *maniacal laugh*
