    Mesmerized by Illuminati

The main question at mind. Will this be the most entertaining class? It's got the flare, its got the dazzle, but is it Ricky Bobby status?

This guy right here, Koopatroopa is going to enter the realms live @ 10/10 and needs to be sold by the community.

Sell me this profession. Or don't.
    Your choice

    sincerely,
    ^1up^

It has nothing to do with the profession, it has everything to do with your title, your broken OP in which its very hard to make sense of what it is you want. Sorry mate.

Koopa wants to know why he should play the Mesmer if anyone wants to weigh in.

I don't know much about them aside from that they don't fit my personal play style but I know TONS of people who love it. So, hopefully...

The mesmer is one of my favorite professions but it's not for everyone. At lower levels it can be a bit squishy. But it's more about trickery than direct action. It's a sleight of hand profession. If you're not moving, particuarly at lower levels, you're dead.

The mesmer is fun for a lot of reasons for me. I can handle with melee and ranged attacks, I can summon and blow up clones and phantasms, and though you can get by knowing the minimal, it has a relatively high skill ceiling.

Of course, not knowing if you're going to PvP or PVe, I can't really give you very specific advice. I'm more of a PvE guy. I have heard in PvP there are a lot of people who are pretty annoyed by mesmers. In fact, in the most recent patch, the mesmers have had a bit of a nerf, but I'm not sure how much that affects how effective they are in PvP.

    Hope this helps a bit.

Guess i didn't think about clarifying it was a Mesmer profession, considering were in the mesmer forums. And yeah ha the title was just for flare not saying you guys are enlightened or anything. But the OP questions were pretty clear IMO.

    @ Vayne

I'm planning on doing both pve and pvp with my mesmer, any input on PVE is much appreciated. As far as skill cap, i've never really had any problems with a class in a game. So rather is it more bursty with phantasm's and what not. Or how exactly would you say the main damage is dealt to creatures?
How is it superior to other Professions? I've read a lot of about all classes being equal, but i just have a feeling there's gotta be some perks to each prof that balance out effectiveness.

You said at early level's i'll feel a bit squishy, well i'm going to be leveling with my girlfriend which is undetermined in between a warrior and a thief. Would either of those two professions nullify the hardships of being squishing early on?

A lot of Guild Wars 2 depends upon your playstyle. I started with an engineer and the play style fit me perfectly. Some people say they are gimped, or they can't play them, I play them fine. In fact, I've heard this about almost every profession.

Some people say thieves are squishy at low levels, other people swear by them. Someone told me warriors are easy mode, and totally survivable, but I die far more on my warrior than I do on my engie, mesmer or ranger.

Unlike most games, and I've played a bunch of MMOs, it really is a flavor thing, because you're not stuck in a role in any of these professions. Any profession can spec for support, or DPS, or control. It's just a matter of changing weapons and stacking traits.

So there is no best profession, there's only a best profession for you. The mesmer is one of the best professions for me, along with the engineer and mesmer. Whether or not it's for you you won't know till you try.

Either a thief or a warrior would go quite well with a mesmer, if you ask me. I think thief might have a higher skill ceiling long term, though (but I could be wrong lol).

That's some very trueness! I hate when people initially complain about something being overpowered or unfair. At times it can be depending on multiple factors, but more than often there is something you need to learn and adapt to. I play a Thief and Mesmers absolutely **** me in PVP. Always!! Unless I have help of course. So what am I doing now.... Playing a Mesmer not complaining about it. Regardless they are fun to fight, just a rather hard match up for me as a Thief.

It is a high skill cap for sure. I die alot in early PVE, and it's kind of annoying to be honest. I'm still liking the class more and more everyday though.

    You should play a Necromancer.

The only problem I have with Necro's is that the usually take a long time to kill.
