Thread: Character Gender...

  1. #1

    Character Gender...

Ok, so we have all heard the stereotypes. "If you play the opposite gender your gay or a trany", "If you only play your RL gender your close minded or homophobic".
I never been one to buy into Stereotypes, but the drama did make me curious. Exactly how does the majority of Gamers feel about cross-playing?

Now I know not All Gamers play GW2, but I'm still interested to get a read on what percentage of GW2 Gamers cross-play..

The poll will not tell people who you are or what your answer was, so there's no need to be concerned about someone judging you, so please be 100% honest...
also, though your Thought, reasons, and opinions are welcome. Hate, and Judgmentalness isn't, so please think about the feelings of the other people here before saying anything rude..

The question is simple. Do you agree with Cross-playing(playing the opposite gender)?
    1. Strongly Agree.
    2. Agree.
    3. neutral.
    4. Disagree.
    5. Strongly Disagree.

If your not sure how to answer, just count up your characters..

I think playing female as a male means you are gay, and if you play male as a male you are in the closet.

I also think this subject is retarded and has been done to death.

I have one female character and 4 male ones made.

Overall, however, I don't care what sex they are as long as I like the way they look when they put on bad ass looking gear. Honestly, these days you should ask if they prefer furries/humans/ponies too because there are those out there that like that too (not me, even though I do have a Charr lol)

I predict that this will spark a pretty heated debate, it has in the past on these forums.

Gender in a game is irrelavent to me and has no bearing on my sexuality or orientation. I do not believe it reflects anything in the person. I've played males, females, Herm (both), and null (robots and the like, things that dont have a gender). It's really funny because most people stopped playing Sslik in Istaria when they found out the race are all Hermaphrodites. Pixels people, pixels.

I don't want things to get ugly, but debates are good. Debates are how people share opinions and ideas.. and debating helps to build charater, back bone, and self esteem...

Weather a person wins, or loses they learn something about subject, themselves, and how to communicate with people(if you want to learn how to fight you gotta go out and get beat up)..

What's wrong with living in the '50's?

All my characters are male but it has nothing to do with caring about sexuality. I try to make my characters a representation of myself. That's why I always have a character named Jim with very similar features.

Granted in this game with Asurans, Sylvari and Charr I can't really make them look like me but I can try to make them what I would want to look like as that species or try to make them fit a certain theme.

Does that mean there aren't really sexy women online from my area that want to meet me right now?

You start out your post by stating very very incorrect tropes from the community about playing the opposite sex. Then you post a poll asking if people play the opposite sex with varying level of shades of grey. The question isn't if you 'slightly agree' because you play a couple females as a male. Its really, simply, a yes or no question. Those who say yes are open-minded and wont tell people how to play their game, and the opposite is true for those who say no. If you're talking about how people conduct themselves (which is what the poll is asking) then well...

What I don't get is why this is important this day in age. I don't understand why someone's choice to make a character a certain way is anyone's business but their own.
