It seems like 2 people are in their 70's, so they say.
I really tend to play with people around my own age. Everytime someone mentions he's 40+ (well even 35+ or 30+) I will start talk differently to them. Kinda because I feel like I'm playing with my dad or someone similar.
It's kinda strange, but I have that feeling, even though I'm 22 myself.
But luckily for me, many serious PvP'ers are college students. So we can all get along really well.
Especially in GW1 it almost felt like every GvG'er was still in high school in the beginning. Later obviously at university.
I'm not saying you can't have fun with 'older' people, but it feels strange talking about things that happen in college and what we do in the weekend. When those people are at home with their kids.
Hmm I didn't think about it like that. Maybe the older folks I played with were all more liberal or something, because they were usually the ones to strike up the convos about crazy weekends and drinking and whatever. I haven't really encountered any crotchety older people, lol.
Maybe the reason for our difference experiences is a gender thing? Like a 50 year old man will talk differently to a guy and a girl? Idk, just a guess.
Kitty Mousechaser on Jade Quarry. Please say hi! :>
While reading your post I kinda reminded myself why I don't like some of the older people(read fathers) in my current guild. While they might spice up the guild chat with those drinking stories, they don't like the language that is used.
College studends and younger people will probably use more bad language as some older people. This is probably caused by the language used in movies and on tv. You will all agree that language evolves over time.
But the most important reason is that younger people don't get upset by anything. In GW1 all competitive PvP guilds consisted mainly of high school/college studends. And we trolled each other non-stop in Alliance chat, ingame chat, during and after PvP matches. Pointing out in horrible ways how they made mistakes and calling them shit.
This might look bad, but it was mostly harmless trolling. And it's fun to troll around in real life also, we do it all the time on my soccer team. But ingame I feel that the older community doesn't like it.
I've found just as many younger people as older people who get upset at the drop of a hat, including some PvPers I know. Saying that older people get upset more is actually the opposite of my experience. That's because younger people have higher levels of certain hormones flowing through their veins that affect emotions.
I don't know anyone my age that cares much one way or another about profanity. I can take it or leave it...I certainly curse enough. But it's not a big deal.
Strangely, I tend to prefer not playing with most younger people, because they're less mature, tend to think they know more than they do, and tend to be more insular in their thought processes. Naturally this is a broad generalization. There are a good number of younger people in my guild that fly in the face of everything I've just said but presumably they joined an older guild because they too don't like hanging out with younger people. lol
Yeah it was nice! He quit, sadly, three months before Wrath of the Lich King released because he didn't like the direction Blizzard was going. But that's another story. It was great in a raid, when the group would wipe, and all he'd say was "Ok, let's just approach this differently" and didn't make everyone feel inferior, like most young guild leaders.
