Ofcourse they are a minority here, as this is a PvE forum. But I've heard a lot of people complain about the unbalanced tournaments. I personally haven't played enough of them as I'm not really interested in playing GW2 PvP. It''s just silly that when you do random tournament that you rofl stomp 3 tournaments in a row. And then just get roflstomped back by another team.
I don't know exactly what the current glory ranks are for the serious PvP'ers. I'll ask my one guildie, as he's the only one that was serious about GW2 PvP from my remaining GW1 guild.
In this topic I mentioned League of Legends quite a few times and now I'm really thinking of installing that game again. The community is quite bad, but the gameplay is great. I only quit that game in december 2010, because I went to study 1 semester in America, starting januari 2011. When I came back, most of my friends had quit and I didn't feel like making new friends.
League of Legends has so much more exciting moments. A mistake in LoL and GW1 could always be a gameloosing mistake. In GW2 a single mistake is most likely not going to loose you the game if you were just playing better the whole game. This really makes the game much less exciting and you're not sitting at the tip of your chair.
No Guild vs Guild. At least that's my take.
Sure the lack of a ladder, observe mode, maps, etc, etc are all concerns as well but to release without the PvP staple format from the first game just makes little sense to me.It's like a Counterstrike release with only a conquest mode that has endless respawns and no "dust" or "dust 2".Most of my old GW1 guildies and PvP friends were chomping at the bit to get back into an updated Guild vs Guild format. It was seemingly what the majority of ex-GW1 PvP players were looking forward too.I even had friends theorycrafting flag-running builds and possible team formats and strategies before the game came out.Instead they have pretty much created a format akin to AB and said "...more to come...maybe...".
If that's not a statement to the hardcore PvP crowd I'm not sure what is.
In saying maybe people are taking it the wrong way in terms of assuming/predicting the possible intent for the future but I really don't think that the player is at fault for doing so.Then again I enjoy the odd sPvP and WvW match and I'm loving PvE so I'm not really too fussed yet I can fully understand why many of the more "serious" crowd, many who may have purchased the game solely for PvP, are scratching their heads atm.
Agreed.I'm still pretty optimistic the first expansion will have a lot of PvP content as well.
I guess at the end of the day it's just a pity that they did'nt capitalize on the amount of GW1 PvP players that they could have, future releases/fixes not-withstanding.Often this is the catalyst for a seriously good PvP community and foundation for great competition. Many of that crowd have already moved on, and not all will be back.
"If your having adventurer problems I feel bad for you son, I dodged 99 arrows till my knee took one"
I have ignored this thread for no real reason and have come back to check on it and have realised after reading all the comments that it is pointless saying anything negative or opinionated on this forum because trying to argue serious PVP with casuals and role players is not going to get anywhere really. These topics are best left to different forums, so apologies for that…..
I do agree with what many of the "community" have said in here though, Serious PVP'ers, and by this I mean Esports quality players who travel to compete and dedicate most of their gaming time to serious competitive and structured/team PVP are the vocal minority.
When it comes to $$$ and casual players/Sheep who like collecting hearts and keeping that Gem store stocked vs serious PVP any company would fill their pockets of course.
But no matter what people on here wish to argue…
- SPVP is terrible in general and extremely boring as it stands.
- Classes are NOT balanced at all.
- The game lacks many features to make it even viable to be taken seriously in the competitive PVP scene.
And I know this may come as a real shock to people on this forum, but not everyone will be patient, not everyone is literally crawling out of Anet’s arse, and people do want change when they part with money.
More opinions stated as fact.
SPvP is not terrible...you don't like it.
Classes are not balanced "at all"...define at all.
Yes, we can agree that the game doesn't yet have the features to make it an esport, Anet was quite upfront in saying that many of those wouldn't be in at launch, including observer mode.
If you'd phrase opinions like opinions, I'd probably not have bothered responding, but there you are.
Yes in my opinion and many other opinions I could sit here and post hundreds of topics that actually exsist outside this forum but why bother.
Burst Thiefs Critting for 18500 with backstab, Bunker Guardians dominating 3 players at once, Mesmers being a general joke of a class, Glass Cannon Warriors globalling people.
5v5 tourny play being dominated by exactly the same setups and classes, specs shining through as being absoloutely dominant in Spvp and everyone using the same builds in tourny play, I could go on.
I understand you see yourself as a rather seasoned gamer Vayne which I am sure you are, but from when we originally spoke you outlined that you are not a serious PVP'er and I highly doubt for all your hours racked up on MMO's you have played in the competitive PVP scene so I don't really understand how you feel you can offer any hands on experience as to how things are in competitive PVP other than what Anet has fed you in their patch notes and maybe the off game you have played for fun?
Now I am not being directly horrible with the above comment, and as for general GW2 knowedge and prob other games I couldnt compete with you, but having been a competivtive PVP'er in various games in which I have played for cash prizes, gone for rank 1's and been in some of the best groups/guilds in the world in my time, I feel I know a little about what I am talking about on this topic. I am terrible at PVE unless its endgame raiding, I dont have the patience for completing map %'s or puzzles, hence why I would never try to school you on it![]()
I'm still pretty sure that most games start this way and work themselves into esports, rather than are esports from day one. That it takes time to evolve and get right. I'm pretty sure most games launch in similar states and slowly work toward getting things right. And that I do have experience in.
My issue isn't really about whether Anet's SPvP is good or bad, or balanced or not. It's a question of the assumption that Anet isn't serious about something, because they launched before they could finish working on things.
From what I understand, things were more balanced in earlier betas than they are now, because they changed the traits and skills to a tier system and they haven't had the same amount of time to work on that balancing. I believe Anet released when they did as a marketing decision, which is what every MMO does and they're playing catch up now...which seems to be par for the course in all MMOs.
I don't know why this should shock anyone. And I don't know how anyone can draw conclusions from it.

I will hold my hands up and say the reason I expected it to be different is the fantastic job they did of selling it, and the general hype behind it which I totally bought into.
"A PVP focused game that will truely be balanced a lead a new era into PVP play" It was like a wet dream for someone who see's balance as a huge part. It just has not delievered for me.
I know many people feel the same way, but we still make up a very small % of the player base.

What exactly have you "competed in" I would actually be interested to know?
You need to look at the big picture. SPvP isn't the only part of the game that's missing features that have been promised to us. There is more going on in this game than your shallow "Waahh I can't pretend like I'm gonna be a professional gamer and say I'm comepetitive when I'm not gonna make a dime playing video games because there's no ranking system" nonsense.
