AC Explorable: The uh, one that's not Ghost Eater/Howling King

Lol, sorry I forget what the path is called. Only attempted it once. We got to the Lovers area, where you have to defend the crystals. We downed the first two or three burrows very quickly -- we had a mes throwing down the group Quickness -- and I can kite adds until the Rapture, but it seemed like teammates eventually got overwhelmed and I couldn't kill them quickly enough myself to save the last crystal.

We tried a couple of ways. 1) We split people up, two on each side to kill the burrows, once person to try to piss off the mobs and keep them busy/off the crystals. Again, I can drop AoE's and survive all day, but regardless a few mobs remained steadfastly uninterested in me and either killed teammates or killed the crystals despite me unloading on them. 2) We said screw one crystal and just tried to protect the crystal first, take down burrows as we could. We got one crystal 80% full on one try, but that's as close as we got.

Is the issue simply, "add moar DPS?" We did have a couple of lower-level characters in there, which could affect the rate of downing the burrows. Anyways, be curious to hear what you guys think.

More control would actually probably be a better solution. Knockbacks/immobilizes, stuns, and blind fields will be your best friends. Especially blind fields. Makes point defense a LOT easier, and I bet a couple Thieves or Engineers could almost completely shut down the mobs on one point if they focus on alternating their blinds.

On the official forum I read about a group who completely ignored the crystals and were able to complete it quite fast... so yeah, if that's your approach, then more DPS will probably help

Hmm, ignored the crystals? We didn't try that, but like you said..DPS, lol. Oh well it really may be just that higher levels are needed. I recall the Howling King sort of has that too with the burrows, but with all 80s it wasn't a problem.

I did it 3rd try with my brother and 3 pugs. Can't recall exact group but we were both ele and there was another ele in the group. I was level 35, my brother around mid 40s. Can't imagine why you would need all 80s.

Weird. Maybe people just weren't very good, LOL.

Actually, I do know that some skills have issues targeting the mounds (some of mine do if I use D/D) so it's entirely possible that ele AoE was the tipping point.

How did you go about it with your group?

Well i was just frantically trying to burn down mounds as fast as i could, as was my brother and the other ele (who seemed to be the only person who knew the encounter. He even suggested we should quit after the previous wipe saying we werent doing enough dps). Tbh i couldnt see anything technical, it waa just spot the mound and burn it down, we had a lot of mobs being kited around by the end with a breeder if i remember right. All 3 of the eles were using staffs, so the mounds took a meteor battering when they were focussed on quick.

Yeaah explorables are weird. The general solution to most of the bosses (not counting learning the actual mechanics of each boss) is do MOAR damage. Even the tankier professions spec'd to do damage instead of survive make the runs easier since a tankier class who specs into defense will only take 1 MAYBE 2 extra hits compared to the glass cannons and do way less damage. They really only help for trash :c

    Kill everything fast
    Don't get hit
    Profit

Yeah, that's a little frustrating. People who are looking to do more of a support and/or control role are devalued. =/
