Thread: Customizable hotbars

    Customizable hotbars

Okay, I have a legit complaint. This is something that hadn't really occurred in my mind until they put in the Guardian greatsword weapon skill changes. So, I'm sure everyone knows that they moved certain abilities up / down in the 1-5 position. Which I'm totally okay with, I understand why they changed it.

What I don't understand is why we can't have the option to swap weaponskills around. I don't really care what order ArenaNet decides we should learn skills in. What I don't like is that now my keybinds which I was very comfortable with have been forced to swap. Because ArenaNet has now decided that this should be proper, I'm forced to deal with it.

Why is this an issue? Well it's not really that big of a deal in the scheme of things. But I really don't like being forced to do things a certain way. Now someones going to say "But Fey! You can just swap your keybindings to what they used to be. Stop being a *****." But.. no I can't, because if I do that then all of my other characters will have their keybinds swapped as well.

See it's just a big mess. Why not simply allow me to move the button where I please? Make me learn it in whatever order, that's not important. But if I'm extremely comfortable with one setup, and then forced to change because they've decided that's how it should be.... Just. No.

Like in a year? If they completely rearrange rifle abilities for Warriors? What then? Everyone has to deal with it? Why? Makes zero sense. Part of the reason we play PC games is for the freedom to map out our buttons and UI where we want them to be.

I'd also be okay if they allowed us to set keybinds for each individual character. Either or, would be perfectly fine.

    Laziest design I've ever seen.

I was in agreement completely till the last sentence. I don't think it has as much to do with laziness as it does to do with what they orginally wanted the 'structure' to be there for in my opinion. They wanted everyone to have to press the same buttons so this way no one could say "Well I see he had his bar set up this way and I think that gave him the slight advantage and he killed me because of it." I know its probably not that important, but I think that's what Anet was aiming for.

With all that being said I still agree that we should be able to move the weapon skills around. There is no sense really locking them aside from for all the clickers out there - those who use the keyboard or mouse (naga) will just reprogram them to be what they want. However, like you said this affects not only one character. If they Keybinds could be character specific this would solve this as well. Whichever is easier to code - your way or mine. I agree there needs to be a change.

Absolutely agree, this has been one of my biggest complaints since the start. I'm pretty good with my naga but there are still times when I'm in the middle of a fight and I mash the wrong button and accidentally heal at the wrong time or pop my elite when all I wanted to do was immobilize my target. Damn tiny buttons

Yeah. I'll admit I didn't really notice it at first. I just took it with any other game that has set controls. But as soon as they changed I was like "dafuq?".

I'd like to have more customisation with the UI. I don't like having my skill bar in the middle blocking my view. In GW1 i had it setup on the left in a 4x2 setup, ideally i would like to have it the same in GW2 with a 5x2 setup. I would also like to move my minimap and custmise the UI to how I like it

ie an old GW1 example of my setup, i'd like to get the UI as close to this as possible

That's part of the challenging nature of Guild Wars 2, isn't it? We don't want to make it too easy now, would we?

lol... "Oh man our game is gonna be so hard! We'll just change the weaponskill orders every so often to keep people from getting too used to it! Brilliant! Who needs ACTUAL difficulty!"

    /facepalm

In DDO, you can have up to 20 hot bars and you can put *anything* in them, including menu entries.
The world is full of pain and sorrow.
Life is fleeting and true moments of joy are few and far between.
Happiness is laced with shards of pain.

So you could in WoW, too. Eventually I realised, I didn't need more than 12 or so buttons during a fight. I quite like the system GW2 implemented. However, I've said from the start that I like to switch the spells around so they fit my keybinding system. I don't actually think the guardian switch is that big of a deal specifically, people can get used to it. I'm just not happy with the idea that they may switch up spells every now and then because their cooldown changes or someone has a bad day at ANet. I got used to the spells the way they are, grudgingly, At least keep them that way. I very much rely on tactile memory for gameplay. So yeah, Fey, go show them.

You may already know this, but in case you don't, you can move the mini map to the top right or bottom right, as well as the chat to the top left or bottom left. It's not much, but it's something.

Since Anet has stated they would be ok with addons to some extent, I'm hoping a good UI mod gets done up real quick like
