Range and Melee Class choice for Pve

I've been playing this game since about 2 weeks after it came out, and I love it. The only thing is that in this game, like all others, I have a hard time choosing my class. I mainly want to focus on Pve. I've decided that I want 1 melee and 1 ranged class for Pve. That could mean that I want 2 different classes, but I might also just play 1 class, and switch between the 2 types of combat, if they are proficient in both. So, what are your suggestions?

The obvious choices are Ranger and Fighter, both are good at both ranged and melee combat. However, with the exception of Engineer, I thing every class has both a ranged and melee option, and sometimes the obvious choices aren't the ones that fit your play style, both my elementalist and necromancer have ended up going with daggers which is either close range or melee distance. So although I'd like to give a more definitive answer, the best thing I can say is generate a character, get as many none soul bound weapons as you can and try out the options, if you don't like the character in the end, you can sell or the junk, but the good stuff and weapons in your bank and generate another character to try. If nothing else, by the time you have tried all combinations of weapons with all classes you should have a fair bit of cash and a lot of materials in the bank ready to supply your main.

The easiest two that are both very well suited for both melee and ranged combat are Ranger and Warr, in that order, in my opinion. If I were to chose one, I would say ranger, since in my opinion it offers more variety in terms of combat style than the warr. (also even Engineer can switch to melee using the Wrench weapon kit)

In the end you will probably end up with one of most professions anyway, since the combat style is different. Anyway, have fun.
