Thread: Again with the GW2 Moderators.

  1. #301
Whoever is the moderator for their forums has to be a real ***** in life. I rarely go there anymore. Although I like to see if there are official posts about classes.

You would think there is some person higher up that you could complain to about the moderator. But then again they would probably ban you for complaining about the mod.

    [mod edit: insulting]

I've tried that forum twice and both times my comments were deleted. I used no vulgarities and wasn't rude to anyone and my posts were relevant. Heck, my second post was defending ANet against a guy who said "a class action lawsuit is in order" and that was deleted too. I don't get it. Why don't you like me official forum!? QQ

Again, please refrain from insults. It's perfectly okay to disagree with the moderating policies on the official forum and the way the moderators there do their job and to discuss that here, but please stay respectful.

I think in that case it's just fuelling the fire to respond to someone like that. They don't want people arguing on their forums about legal issues - they have lawyers for that, and conversations of that ilk will never end well.

It gets even stranger. Four days ago, as I mentioned, I was temp-banned again. I protested, and today, I am no longer banned. However, I did not receive any communication from anyone regarding this matter.

The world is full of pain and sorrow.
Life is fleeting and true moments of joy are few and far between.
Happiness is laced with shards of pain.

As I said (probably on this very thread) a few weeks back before I started to really lose heart in this game, I was infracted a few times over a week or two which resulted in a temp ban

Well, same happened today, my last infraction being ironically a violation of their "don't call out staff" rule, which honestly is so misused and abused it's now become a "don't ever directly question us, filthy peasants"

Their forum moderators STINK at making decisions, are FACELESS and not accountable for actions and to make it all worse serve to only stifle proper discussion far more than improper comments.
What's worse is they only serve to alienate their own player base, but it's not surprising, their ham fisted changes to the game have served only to reinforce their image which is honestly now becoming that "I have no idea what I'm doing meme"

I can abide slow progress, lack of polish bad game design, going against their own manifesto and marketting advertisements, changing the direction of the game even slightly or the gear progression that people are half imagining and blowing up about. But I CANNOT fathom their outright disgraceful misuse of their own forums and oppressive rules which at best make little sense save for to remove accountability for their actions...

Some of the only solace I have, is that the last time I seen this kind of garbage forum policy and negative attitudes from game staff coupled with bad general directions.. Was on Diablo 3, and they certainly got to eat their humble pie... one can only hope that it actually ends up as bad so they learn not to be such tyrannical morons with their stormtrooper esque faceless moderation and lack of accountability.

I almost hope that they go into massive decline and actually get bought out by nexon completely, so they can just go full hog and train wreck the game instead of this slow decline of quality. And I defended this game quite a bit... it's kind of a shame to me... I feel I misrepresented this game to my friends out of naivete and whilst it hasn't gone all P2W and whatnot... I can't shake the feeling that it's not going to ever be anything but a soulless timesink of a game with a crappy forum staff.

Forum staff has nothing to do with the quality of the game itself, when held against other MMO releases is at very least good. Most MMO releases in the last five years have totally sucked.

At any rate, Anet hasn't gone against their manifesto, and if you watch it, I challenge you to show where they did. Honestly, the repetition of a falsehood doesn't make it fact.

They did make changes in other ways, but it has nothing to do with the manifesto. The only thing in the manifesto that refers to grind, refers neither to gear nor to vertical progression. They don't talk about vertical progression or gear grind at all in the manifesto. They talk about combat grind, as in grinding to level. If you listen to the context, there's no other conclusion you can draw from it.

"I swung a sword, I swung it again, hey I swung it again. That's just great. We don't want people to grind in Guild Wars 2, no one finds it fun. We want to change the way people view combat."

No idea how anyone can get no gear grind or no vertical progression from that.

Well it wasn't developed by Bethesda, only published. Which means your promise to yourself doesn't apply :3

My issues with the game, are only vaguely related to my issues with the forum. However when there's a deliberate and overt censorship of even simple things as claims that analogies are out of context, whilst blatant SPAM threads are left alone so long as they are positive about the game no matter how asinine their content is. Well at that point one can only look and think, is this a bit of a liberty they're taking? are we not allowed to have a negative opinion of the game insomuch as we're also trying to be positive and support positive ideas and resolutions to said issues?

It's very easy to say "hey it's their forum, if you don't like it don't post there" and in many way's you're right, that doesn't mean we should be so forgiving of that sort of approach they take, the idea that posting on their forum is a "privilege" when it is the most direct line you can get to them to give your opinion on aspects has always irked me, as has their somewhat open to abuse policies disagree all you want but from what I'm seeing on the forum and others who normally are calm and forgiving of heavy handedness, they're being ridiculous at times. When you add the faceless aspect to their moderation, it always just seems too oppressive but that's just me.

As for their manifesto not matching their direction:

I don't actually mind that they've added in a new tier of gear, they can add more if they like for all I care it won't change the aspects of the game that need fixing for me as a player and in my personal opinion, if their idea of removing grind was only for leveling up, why stop there? and why then have such a sort of "culture shock" when after not being forced to grind for levels all the way up, are you suddenly faced with the same grind centric content that people clearly were not expecting given the complaints, and most certainly didn't want?

Would it have killed them to say "our leveling won't have grinding, we don't think that's fun but later on you'll have to inevitably grind for gear"

Then at LEAST they wouldn't have such a huge backlash from the community and the feeling of betrayal, vague marketing is BAD marketing, defend their intent but as much as I cannot prove they didn't intend this from their manifesto, you cannot prove otherwise except to claim it's "contextually correct" as all it comes to is just conjecture.
And that's because their manifesto can be misinterpreted. And it if can be misinterpreted, then it can be considered misleading.

"We don't find grinding fun, we don't want you to grind" can be interpreted either as

    a) "We're not going to let you grind by adding in a ton of DR and gate you"

    b) "We're going to create a game where grinding is not necessary for anything and goals won't take you months of repetition"

Which sounds more like what they've done? remember I'm not asking what they meant in their manifesto which can be interpreted either way, I'm asking what from a subjective opinion as a player, which seems more likely from the above two interpretations?

I added it to my wishlist. If my Mistress ever allows me to look at another game, I will check it out.
