I'm new to GW and never played it. How ever GW2 is looking really good (i dont play WOW so dont flame me for not playing GW)
Question it. Can all races really play all classes. So far are it looks that way. but as have never played GW do you think it will be that one once the game comes out? Also can any one be willing to tell a bit more (show me the ropes) I will even be willing to buy GW for its nice low price just so i can get to know some of you. Thank you for your time.
* Yes, all races can play all professions. There are no restrictions. You can choose whatever combination you consider to be the most fun.
* Don't worry about never having played GW. GW1 and GW2 are completely different games in every way. The only link between the two games is the story (lore) - GW2 is set 250 years after the events in GW1. However, everything you need to know about GW2 you will be told in the story in GW2 - there is absolutely no need to play GW1. There will be some occasions in which GW1 players will recognize characters or events from the previous game (for example the names of the ghosts in the Ascalon dungeon will be familiar to GW1 players), but you will do just as well without this knowledge. So I wouldn't recommend buying GW1 unless you think you can actually enjoy playing it.
As for meeting others... several of the guilds that you can join, have their own website to chat and get to know each other. Not all of them are very active at this stage - just like this forum, I think a lot of people are just waiting for GW2 news, for the beta to start and for ArenaNet to announce a release date. Quite a few of those are playing SWTOR, Skyrim or another recent game to fill the gap. So until that time, I think that there will be more silent lurkers than active posters/gamers. But you said in your other post that you're also play testing SWTOR, so you may very well be able to meet up with other GW2 fans there.
Yes, it has been officially stated by AN that all professions will be playable by all races, and they don't plan to change it.
Also, though GW1 was my favorite game back in its hay-day, it has died off quite a bit. Most of the PvE content is deserted nowadays. On the other hand, the Random Arenas and a bit of Guild PvP are still active, and those may be worth your 10 dollars if you are a PvPer.
