Depends on what you want, and also if you're asking about PvP or PVe, which might have different answers.
Bears are the tankiest of the land pets (armorfish are the tankiest of the underwater pets), so if you're looking for something to tank of you, those are good. Spiders tend to have poison which is good. Though I don't use a cat much, I tend to use the raven a lot because I like the F2 blindness and they seem pretty good at avoiding damage.
i generally use a Bear and Murellow, tbh Bear is my backup, i love how the Poison Cloud skill from the Murellow syncs with Rapid Fire from the longbow. Spiders are ranged so not so good at soaking up aggro, think they're better for PvP.
You do know you can cap every pet and switch them around for different areas and foes? and that you can also rename them in the pet window
oh...sry guess i wasn't to clear on what I was asking. I meant what type. I know I want to use a bear and a cat for PvE and a spider for PvP I was just wondering which one do you guys think is best. EXAMPLE: Brown, Black or Polar Bear since they have different F2 skills. My apologies
It's all situational and preference, really. Like I said, I use the raven because I like the blind but the owl has chill, which is good also in certain situations.
What I'd do is list out the F2 skills of each and start thinking about the types of foes that their attacks would be most advantageous for, in regards to your play style.
For example, if you get up close and personal, blind is very good. But if you're a ranged character, and you are specced to keep your distance, then chill works very well for that. Think of these pets as extra skills and figure out which skill you'd take in different situations.
I would say Bear, because they don't die instantly, when most other pets do.
Best out of those pets? hmm...
Bear: I usually use Murellow. Like Bogus Dude said, the Poison Cloud is useful, and he tanks almost as good as the Black and Brown Bears, but I know everyone likes the Brown Bear because of "Shake It Off".
Cat: I would definitely say Lynx. F2 skill hits hard and is a leap combo finisher. I wouldn't see practicality in Jaguar's stealth. Runner up IMO would definitely be Jungle Stalker for the Might boon.
Spider: This one's harder to pick, but I guess I'd go with the Cave Spider.
condition pve ranger and i just adore the lynx i usually run the fern hound as the other so i have the f2 heal for when things get busy not sure why seeing so many people say their pets keep dying but ive never needed to run a bear just to keep my pet alive, though i am speced into haste on pet swap so i do keep changing them frequently.
