... what does it matter, really? People can play whatever they want.
Does it matter what race is more popular in a fictional game setting environment? lol
when this discussion first did the rounds i think most said humans would rule but there was also a strong affection towards Charr due to GW1 nostalgia. I intended to make all human characters but in actual fact decided i would, in the long run, want to experience the storyline for each race and that it made sense to make them from the start rather than later. So i now have human ranger, human mes, sylvari ele, charr necro and a norn thief. My next will be an asuran and any others will likely (don't hold me to it lol) be human. I also intended to reuse a few of my old GW1 names but have in actual fact only used my main Bogus Dude for my ranger, Mesmertronic for my mes taken from an old compilation video i did for GW1 solo farming with Mes (called Mystery Bogusdude), Necromongrel for my nec (Bogusdudette In Nec in GW1), Ele Mental for my ele (Bogus Dudele) and Sneeky Sneeky for my thief taken from Mr Deeds (Not a GW1 class but my sin was Bogus Assassin Dude). Old news is indeed and always will be old news!
The original argument wasn't really about which race was the most popular. That wasn't it at all.
The argument was about something else which was this: Would the Sylvari and Asura be available to play in the third beta event. My reasoning was that they would have to be, because if they weren't, that's what everyone would gravitate to when the game started, being that we'd have had three beta events to try human, charr and norn, and, being limited to two zones, would have probably done pretty much all that content. It's a no brainer to me.
As it turned out, those zones were, in that beta, were massively busy. I mean there are a gazillion people in there and that wasn't head start, what was beta 3.
That was the real argument. Not that humans would be more popular or less. But that if they didn't have those specific zones opened prior to the game launch, those games would have been busy.
There were those on these forums who said that no one cared about the sylvari or asura and that Anet wouldn't have to make them playable in Beta 3 which they did.
Sort of a moot point two months after launch to come back and point to an article that says humans are the most popular, something no one was arguing, and then point to an article which agreed with the poll I posted even back then. Humans are the most popular in every game and no one was arguing it. I can't remember one person from that original thread who even commented about human popularity.
Hairless blue Asura females with white eyes, are the most played race in the game... I know this for a FACT.
It's like a self effacing prophecy. When you put the choice between different choices and one of them is most relevant to the player, of course they would choose such.

So why do so many ppl play a human in games???
personally i never play humans (except in rare occasions like when death nights came out in WOW i created one for the racial perks, but changed to ORC at max lvl)
the charr are so awesome in every way the warriors armor sets look so bada**
the voice acting is great and the animations are fantastic.
the asura are so cool and funny.
The humans in GW" are so lifeless they run weird the animations are pfft, the female humans are so skinny, they look horid.
And armor on them is dull,
I tend to play underdogs, thats why when i first played WOW 5 years ago i played a troll rogue coz no one else did (not many anyway)
Don't get me wrong i have no problem with ppl playing what they want.
I'm just trying to get my head around whats so special about humans?
