Thread: Thief condition PVM useless?

    Thief condition PVM useless?

I loved the idea of making a condition thief - sneak to enemy, condition damage them then dodge away and kite - rinse and repeat until dead

I got to Level 16 and was having great fun dodging and hit-running but then i read the forums (several differing) and seems the condidion thief becomes useless past lev 20 and not really made for pvm (due to max 25 bleeds) ...
So now because of the game mechanics i am forced to shelve my thief or make a backstab thief (which i hear is better in pvm) but thats not really fun for me

Any thoughts on this by people who have played thieves?

So you're not playing your Thief anymore because of what a few people on the forums say? Tsk tsk tsk. Btw, whats PVM? If you mean PVP, I use a condition bleed Thief with my Daggers and Shortbow, very powerful. Don't give up.

If PVM means something else, disregard. But at least try to get to 20 and find out for yourself.

I love condition builds. My ele and ranger are both condition based, to hell the other people who say other wise haha.

Also, I think he means PvE because PvM is player vs monster. Just another way to say PvE.

    Okay thanks.

I haven't played my condition Thief for very long, about 10 days now and love it.

I think my problem is that i listen too much to the min/max asshats that anything played that is not using the *must have* abilities or traits is useless - the problem with that is that everyone seems to have a different *best* build which is highly confusing ...
So, im going to just play my thief how i want and have fun :-)

Perfect. Always the best way to go. I have no idea if I use a "best" build but I just started taking traits that looked fun, your decision is usually best.

GW2 is still new. Right now, most minmax guys are idiots. A poison/bleed condition thief is going to be fine as long as your group is setup for that. And there is no reason that I can think of that a condition build shouldn't work if you're going solo. Reading up on theorycraft is cool, but try to apply it to your situation. You'll find it isn't as bad as it looks.

The only thing why a condition thief wouldn't work is on big boss events. When the bleed and vulnerability stacks are always maxed out.

Also in dungeons, when all 3-5 guys are heavy condition based with bleeds then it could max out the bleed stacks at 25. Which isn't a gamebreaking problem, you're just less efficient ( which is a problem to me imo).
Just a matter of proper communication and setting up.

In solo play you rarely max out bleed stacks.

even if 2 people focus on stacking conditions you wont always 100% of the time have max stacks on bleeds and/or poisons , ur best bet is just make sure you have alot of condition damage so your conditions do that much more, and do what you set out to do , which was stack on the conditions and keep them there.

condition builds can be exceedingly good on bosses more so then general groups of mobs because some bosses can be hard to actually stand there and lay on the flat damage due to a number of reasons. 1 example would be (i believe is the butcher) in HoTW exp runs . unless your team takes the time to always remove the retaliation totem 50% of the flat damage you do to the boss is going to be reflected making nuke builds semi useless because unless you stop every few hits to heal up you will end up killing yourself long before you kill the boss. making conditions key because the damage they do isent reflected.
