Thread: My ROSE-Colored Glasses are BROKEN

  1. #281
In my last game if you died in PvE you lost literally millions of experience, out of the billions you needed for one level. There was a legal in-game bot that you pretty much needed to be running 24/7 to make any progress in the 3 most important fields (leveling, gold, skill upgrades). It was also an open world PvP game, and people would set their bots up before work/bed and afk for 8 hours, then come back and see someone had PK'd them 5 minutes after they left. The bots came from the cash shop. The timer continued to tick while you were dead, so you were not only not making any progress, but you were wasting real money every second you lay there dead.
You didn't lose exp on death if you were PK'd, only if you were killed by a mob. We had an update one time that meant there was no more 1-shotting people if you were OP (like I was ) instead your HP would go straight to 1, so it would have to be a 2 shot. Of course this led to everyone buffing up and whacking the afk player as hard as they could to get them to 1hp, then letting the mob they were attacking finish them off.

There was of course a very simple way to ignore all penalties from death - an item from the cash shop. Though I'm not sure which was worse... losing real money every time you died or millions of experience (possibly a month's worth of 24/7 time and money)/your items if you were PK'd.

I also believe that a lot of this games enjoyment or lack there of, can be equated with what you do. Sometimes, you can only boggle at the implementation of some of these effects. Fey pointed an obvious candidate for this. Want rewards that require a grind, but lets make the grind even more nauseating then it really needs to be. Anet seems to be fond of the catch 22 syndrome. Doesn't make any logical sense to me either, but it is what it is.

From my point of view this is really what the game comes down to: (and having played with both Sho and Vayne i think it will be something they both can agree with)

-If you are an alt-aholic, what keeps you "busy" with the game will be very long lived.
-If you don't mind tedious grinds that can keep you busy, you'll enjoy the game for some time.
-If your focus is on a PvP aspect, despite it's flaws, you can play this game for as long as it lives.
-If you are a social gamer and tend to play games for their social appeal (RP or not), the game will last you a long time.

-If you tend to focus on one or two characters, the fun will eventually wain because you'll run out of "fun" stuff that keeps you busy. Once you've run that dungeon for the millionth time, it's not gonna be fun no matter how you try to shake it up. Once you've gotten the "look" you want, the grinds that kept you busy can die, and likely wouldn't be missed.

-If your focus is on PvE, but you don't care to play more then just a couple characters, the game can quickly become tiresome if you aren't into the things listed above that can keep you busy. Even being a completion'ist can only last so long unless you have an abundance of characters to do it with.

Simply put this game is about: What can i enjoy that keeps me occupied? If you're staying occupied, you're probably having fun too. If not, than it's ability to keep you interested is going to slowly fade for even the most hardcore gamer.

That is true for any game.
Agree 100%. I am fearing for when I have done it all and get bored with PvP. I hope ANet does not take too long to pump out more meaningful long term content or many batches of short lived content.

I am getting to that point right now, where I just log for 1 hour and is like what to do? Halloween crap? nah I dont care about it, level 80 2 toons, now working on number 3, nah tired of that, shut the computer and go read a book, awesome.

The game has lost its luster for me, reaching level 80 and then I find myself with nothing to do, except finishing Orr but it is so awfully designed that I spent 5 minutes in Orr and I feel like I am in a hORRor movie, everything is so convoluted and full of veterans and way populated that I dont bother with it anymore. I am not quitting but I am not playing a lot anymore.

I have not been able to do one single story dungeon and I feel like at level 80 you are pretty much done.

I don't even know what to think. You and Shok are the last two people on the forum that I thought would quit this early into the game. It's kinda really funny.

The amount of people quitting is rather funny.

I had a massive discussion about the numbers being down and certain people said "NO WAI" and guess what, sales are pretty much non exsistant.

Well I think I overplayed and that may have brought boredom, plus also not been able to do 1 single story mode dungeon and not been able to explore Orr for the reasons previously described really broke my spirit about the game. When you reach 80 there is nothing to play for, no new level to reach, no new goals etc.

For the most part life is what you make. Same for this game, this game is what you make it. Log in and think there's nothing to do? You're absolutely right. Log in and think there is a ton to do? You're absolutely right.

I wish more people were competative. Shoke doesn't want to WvW because there is no risk. YOU MAKE THE RISK!!! You should feel like a bum when you lose to somebody and like a champ when you win. Strive to be the best. Make your own goals...I want to be the baddest elementalist on my server and when we play other servers and they see me and my guild tag...they know to run. Thats my goal. I'm still working on getting there but I made a challenging ambitious goal and will be working on that for a really long time.

Ruse, you might appreciate this. Yesterday I run into an enemy ele. (Actually they saw me first from behing and RTL into me and updrafted so started from a possition of strenght)...they even did the gimicky churning earth/lightning flash move....which worked the first time. (but not the next two times they tried...fool me once..) This was probably one of the most skilled ele's I ever played against and could tell they were traited very similar to me by what was happening in the fight. The battle went on for 5-6 minutes and was about even and MAYBE they had a slight advantage. I kept thinking...man this ele is really good, probably the best one I've ever fought and one of the best 1on1's I've had...but it was close enough that neither one of us could get the other below about 40% health and on and on it went. Then more of their peeps showed up and I had to get out of dodge.

THEN IT HIT ME...SBI had (and still do) all 3 orbs so they had a 15% bonus to everything accross the board. So if it was even I would have won imo. BUT I would have ABSOLUTELY won if I had all the orbs like they did and they had none...and realized that yes, I'm still a baaaaad man and have yet to run into an ele that I felt I couldn't take.

Not that i want to argue about it. It's just something i personally prefer, and one of many things that i think are contributing to my extremely quick burnout of the game.
Actually I agree with you on this. I'd rather have that too. I also understand the reason they don't have it, but I'd rather have it.

What's funny is people saying stuff like this without a single shred of evidence. That's what's funny.
