Interesting, might look into it. The idea of using third party software for something fundamental like that doesn't sit too well with me in general, but a bit of snooping around might change my mind (; Thanks.

Edit: Oh, I see, Windows has it in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts . A little buried but there nonetheless.

Tropic Thunder puts me in an instant good mood. It's gotta be on my list of favorite movies ever.

I must have watched that video at least 74 times since it came out awhile back. Thinking about making the mesmer my official first character. An asura of course. That way people will despise me even more when I wipe the floor with them. I'm already thinking of portal strategies for PvP

I'm with you on that. Looking forward to trying to mimic my clones so people can't tell who the real me is. My hope is that there are no third party ui features that will help you determine who the real character is and that any buffs/debuffs are also shown on the clones making it impossible to tell who is who until you attack it or until I give away that it's me by doing something beyond what the clones would do.

I hope they don't allow any 3rd party mods. That would suck for mesmers. Seeing that phantasms are more powerful than clones, I hope there is an ability to make us look like them so its harder to tell which is the real one if you mimic them.

Well I think the idea is that the phantasms are going to last a bit longer and be stronger. These are not exact copies of you as you might have a pistol in the off hand but the summoned phantasm carries dual pistols or a sword etc. They'll look similar but they'll also have a purple glow about them so if you choose to ignore them you still can. I doubt it would be a good idea to just let them sit there and attack though so you probably want to handle them asap. You can shatter these just like you can with clones and if you continually summon them the oldest one will disappear as the new one shows up.

However in the case of the clones, these are supposed to be identical copies of you including what armor you have on and weapons you're using. My speculation behind the clones though is that you should be using them very temporarily as distractions and more importantly to get your shatters going. Since they're not that strong to begin with you wouldn't really want them up too long as they're not doing much damage at all. I think you create them, use them as a diversion, shatter them to create the debuff/damage effect you're want and then create a new one.

Having yet to see any footage of people playing one or playing against one I can only speculate anything but the mechanic sounds pretty fun already.
