So I've updated my signature and added more info on my profile, plus a picture of my current character. I'm a very active player and have been consistently working towards my World Completion and currently sit at 85% for it. I am also saving up for Cultural Armor for my Sylvari, as I've already got the first tier.

Cultural anthropology! This specific class is on Ethnographic Methods, thus the project!

Nope, but thanks for your feedback. Hopefully my current responses are quelling all your suspicious fears.

I understand skepticism on the internet, and I am doing my best right now to reassure everyone.

Any questions you guys have can be posted here and I'll do another big response in a few hours, just to calm those who think I'm going to disappear again.

so uh.... I just noticed after two pages, no one wants to volunteer? :| I did post in the first page I can volunteer. Idk how you plan on doing your data gathering, but you can just send me a pm here and I'll reply.

And c'mon guys, it's very fun to do a research project based on something you like, such as a game. Let's all give him/her(I forgot x.x) a hand here =P Would help on sharing us your methodology for gathering data and stuff =P

Well i think it starts with confirming or not the person behind the character, so some sort of voice chat is needed, and maybe a social website on the side too.

Personally, I feel that Greyfeather started typing with his foot in his mouth (what an awkward position that must be!) and instead of wording any concerns in a polite and constructive way, went for the cheap attack.

The world is full of pain and sorrow.
Life is fleeting and true moments of joy are few and far between.
Happiness is laced with shards of pain.

Also, come on guys. How could this possibly be a scam if they don't have any of your personal information whatsoever? What are the going to scam you out of, your thought processes?

Just because my assumption was incorrect doesn't mean I was wrong in expressing it. I've already stated that I appear to have been wrong. Unlike most people who enjoy hiding behind their anonymity, I strive to be the same person online as I am IRL. Admitting that my assumption was wrong doesn't cost me anything, and it doesn't hurt my pride.

But being wrong doesn't make my stance wrong. Afterall, one can only know if one is willing to ask the questions.

Scams aren't always in the form of easily recognizable facades that anybody would readily ignore. With an increasing number of scam-savvy people on the internet, it's not odd to think that new scams might be created that subvert the usual tropes associated with most scams.

In short, somebody who wants to scam and knows that people will see a regular scam coming a mile away would most likely create something new that's never been done before. The best con-artists in the world make you feel comfortable enough with them to trust them with your info, without actually directly asking for it.

That said, with the return of the OP, I'm more than wiling to accept the premise that this person is legitimately looking for help on his/her research project. Though it would be nice to have more info about it.

I'm not saying anything about your stance, and bravo for being willing to admit that you might be wrong, a rare occurrance in the Land of No Consequences. I only question the manner of your skepticism and the words you chose to express it. And I, too, feel that anonymity is the bane of courteous behavior on the 'net, which is why I generally post with my real name.

*Shrugs* I'm not very tactful. When I shoot for tactful, I usually end up sounding arrogant and condescending. So I just don't bother. If I'm going to piss off people either way, I'd rather just say it however I want, and let people decide if they're going to get butthurt or not.

I am pretty much the same iRL, although I am still courteous unless someone really exhausts my patience. Here, however, there is a complete lack of facial expessions and vocal tone, people nowadays are less versed in reading comprehension and sadly, there are people who cannot determine the tone or emotions expressed textually without an emoticon being attached to the sentence, so I prefer being tactful so that those less skilled in English fluency than I are not accidentally hurt by my words. If they still chose to take offense, well, that is entirely upon them.
