I know there are sceptics here but since I don't plan on prividing any personal info and like to think I'm fairly intelligent, I'm sure I can tell whats a scam or not. (this doesnt feel like one but obv we haven't started yet)

Plus I recently helped out a new friend from Nigeria that due to some unfortunate events hasn't been able to access his vast fortune. I've sent all the necessary information to get the ball rolling on getting him those funds and seems like he will be grateful enough to send some of them my way. So I'm not really worried about this study at all...I'm pretty much all set.

Wait until you get to the part "I have a rich aunty in Nigeria that inherited 55 millions of Euros but needs people to provide her with financial aid to be able to redeem the key that opens the safe which is located in the Nigerian bank

This is a forum, where someone had to take the time to join and write that post,

Ya, I never get in-game scams/spam....

she didn't even ask for your email address! She wasn't asking for money, she wasn't asking for personal info, she wasn't asking you to cash impossible amounts of money using your bank account.

Does not mean contacting her would not have led to her sending you a link that puts a virus on your computer. All ppl were saying was becareful this smells fishy.

She appears to be doing everything she can to make the people who want to help her feel as secure and worry-free about their identity-safety as possible.

She's doing more now, but at first there were red flags.
1. First post ever....REDFLAG!
2. 2 duplicate posts in two different areas....REDFLAG! (and against rules...)
3. Subject matter appeared rehearsed and overly innocent....(2 things most scams have in common)
4. Sketchy facts (been playing GW2 for 4 years)
5. Game facts sounded like something you would gleen if you briefly read the GW2 wiki.

If you don't want to participate in her research, that's fine. But don't start judging her and accusing her of being a scam artist on a public forum, when she's not even asking for anything personal from you.

Don't tell me what to do If I feel something might be a scam I feel obligated to acknowledge that and warn my fellow forum posters. This "coming to light" allows her to explain a little better and it helps more ppl to feel good about participating. I'm sure there were other ppl that were skeptical, but didn't post anything, now they can feel a little better about it and she will have more interviews.

Exactly, it COULD be a scam. But if you're smart, you should be fine. Don't click on links. Don't provide personal info. Don't be a dumbazz. If she sends questions that I think I can answer in a PM with no links and I can type up a response and send it...I see no issues with that.

OMG that is VERY true! Atleast of the MMO'ers I know personally (including myself). lol

Two things:

First: yes, you should always be extremely careful what sites you visit and what kind of information about yourself you are willing to give out to a stranger, and what email address you use for communicating with others. Anything that even goes in the direction of this kind of surveys is better left untouched.

Second: I do believe Mary is genuine. She has done her best to provide as much information as necessary about herself and her project, and she has made it clear that she absolutely intends to avoid all personal information. Ofcourse, even there it's smart to always stay alert, and to not blindly answer every question she asks... but you always have the option to not answer questions that you think go too far (for example if she asks you about your favorite farming locations).

And it's irrelevant if they have been active on this site before they started their research paper. So please don't shoot down every single person with a research paper, and try to be kind and helpful to the ones that deserve it.
