Wait, you guys are telling me that you thought this was a scam? I mean I get it, if you lose your account that's another $60 but it's obvious Mary is not a scammer, and it's pretty obvious she is doing a study since she is doing a study of Anthropology for a video game community. A scammer wouldn't know what anthropology was, or at least use it correctly in a sentence. Another thing is she's a girl, girls never lie, ever. (Sarcasm) But seriously, there's a difference between thick skin and being a silly, This is obviously not a scam (Already proven) but I knew from the very start.
I would like to participate, though I have yet to play Guild Wars 2 yet I have a lot of history with MMOs (Almost 16 years now I think) in general and an opinion on this forum community already.
I still think its a scam. Where the OP scams her way into my heart and we begin a summer romance in November thus embarking in a long sensual journey of self discovery and heartache. Then it turns out that she's actually a robot alien who is here to learn our ways and discover our weaknesses so her race of super sexy robot friends can take over. But then she falls for a ruggedly handsome Balkan man who is one badass elementalist in GW2; and she will be torn between her man and her mission. Also the guy has a pet duck named Roger McQuacksteen.
Based on a true story. Starring Leam Neeson as the wise old man that's seen it all. Ryan Gossling as the rugged Balkan with a sensitive side. And Kristen Stewart as a sexy robot that due to a software glitch is lacking all facial expressions. Directed by Michael Bay.
Comming Summer 2013.

The world is full of pain and sorrow.
Life is fleeting and true moments of joy are few and far between.
Happiness is laced with shards of pain.
Thought it was a possibility for reasons stated earlier in this thread, yes.
The time invested in my characters, for me, would be the most tragic.I mean I get it, if you lose your account that's another $60
Nope, not obvious. Really not obvious after only her first 2 posts.but it's obvious Mary is not a scammer,
Is this (sarcasm) too? You would be stereotyping all scammers as idiots. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the negative connotation as I do not like scammers, but you are doing a disservice to yourself in underestimating them.and it's pretty obvious she is doing a study since she is doing a study of Anthropology for a video game community. A scammer wouldn't know what anthropology was, or at least use it correctly in a sentence.
Yes, there is.But seriously, there's a difference between thick skin and being a silly,
I do not believe it is a scam either, but it is not "already proven" and you guessing at the outcome and being correct does not make your decision making process in regards to what might or might not constitute a "scammer" fool proof. This is obviously not a scam (Already proven) but I knew from the very start.
I apologize for not returning when I said I would, but I have just received my critiqued long proposal from my professor, and worked a little bit on editing it for posting. Here are some excerpts that I feel are the best snapshot of my proposed study:
With the formation of separate identities allowing players to connect with each other, how big a role does this play in interactions? Does remaining anonymous in the form of an alter ego drive the formation of online communities? These two questions are the axis on which my research revolves, in the specific sphere of Guild Wars 2. I will examine how social norms are negotiated both through the random interactions of strangers in the game world, as well as etiquette that exists in guild settings. In the former setting, I will observe the actions of players and find out what encourages them to help complete strangers, and to what extent the game mechanics affect this. In the latter, I will look for evidence of emotional bonds between guild mates, and what reasons players have to either keep or shed anonymity.I realize these passages are rather lengthy, but for those of you interested, here they are.In preparation for this research I have been actively playing Guild Wars 2 and gaining experience and skill as a player, in order to be taken seriously by my participants and show that despite my asking so many questions, I am an earnest player at heart. My involvement with the game extends back to 2009 when a friend of a friend coerced me into playing with him. This particular acquaintance I did not know in person; we had met through a Skype introduction by our mutual friend, who had moved from his place of residence to mine. It was because of this strange pseudo-real-life friendship that I became interested in the intricacies of online interactions. I felt that I had a real friendship over the Internet, but was that still possible being anonymous to one another? Or better yet, meeting through the identities of created characters? Since then, I have met various other people through my times playing the first Guild Wars, but never to the point of sharing my personal life. We knew each other solely through our online identities, but around me I witnessed countless friendships and was amazed at the comfort between strangers. These connections have not lasted, and so my connections in the game world at this time are null, and I must begin from scratch in order to complete this research. My search has begun on guild forums and fan sites spanning between American and European players, where I have stated my intentions and basic methods in its simplest terms and as honestly as possible.
Also I would like to point out that I am compiling a list of those who have expressed interest, and will PM you presently. Since I have to distribute a consent form to be signed, I am pursuing alternatives that will be less suspicious than an email attachment. If anyone has any suggestions on this matter, I would be interested to hear them!
Thanks everybody!
Can you attach the form to this forum? Then we can send it to you in the reply by PM...if we can attach things to PM's, I've never done it and didn't bother to check before posting this. Which is my MO.
As per the request of bokiz333, I have attached a compressed PDF which is the University of Victoria's consent form, tailored for my study. For those of you that have expressed interest, I have PM'd you and directed you to this post so as to allow you to take a look and decide your commitment.

In the PM the OP mentions that she would like to join us for some in game action to see our interaction and observe the game play. As I said to the OP in my return PM (and will share here for other opinions/ideas), since many of us are on different servers and transfering servers has been limited to only once a week...Im not sure how feasible this part of the plan will be. You may need to figure out what server everyone of your participants are in and then work with the ones that have the greatest numbers on the same server.
