Thread: Raids

Titan how can you possibly get that from Vayne's post?

YOU are the one that implied that because he posts here all the time he must be some sort of failure as a writer/editor. He explained why that assumption was wrong. So you prompted it, and he didn't just come in throwing that information around. Guy has 7500 posts, this is the first time I heard he's got some cash. Not really bragadocious imo.

And the fact that you have so far thrown out over the last 2 pages:

    1) What a huge success story you are by throwing it in other people faces.
    2) How you have exceled in the things you have done
    3) The fact you stated you earned lots of cash (My Personal Favourite)
    4) The fact your age supposedly make you correct and able to know more on the subject of computer games.

You have actually embarrassed yourself in my eyes buy reverting to some extremely childish statements.

"I am cash heavy, an Editor, and a successful writer, older, therefore I am better than you"
This actually made me laugh out loud. I responded to things that have been said, particularly what's been said by you.

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Man, you're amusing. lol

To clarify, I've had a relatively successful writing/editing career, but I'm by no means Stephen King. However, only a tiny percent of writers and editors actually can support themselves full time. Almost all of them have to take second jobs, either teaching, or lecturing or even waiting tables. It's tough out there for writers.

In the end though, it's a crappy industry anyway, and after writing in a genre I didn't enjoy for a longer time than I should have, I hung it up, not because I wasn't doing well, but because I felt like I'd sold out. The stuff I wanted to write didn't sell nearly as well as the stuff I didn't want to.

In the end, it was a matter of trying to preserve what little artistic integrity I had left. Just setting the record straight.

I am not the only one who has pointed out his nature in various posts, I have no interest in him having over 7500 posts, I was refering to the content of that post and the conversation in this thread.

And yes the response was because of my initial comment, however It is still a rather amusing reaction for an older man with so much life experience.

I'm fine with Raids as long as they don't hand out better gear than you can get doing other parts of the game. It can lead to gear faster which is fine, just not better. Someone shouldn't be penalized because they don't have the time to spend 2+ hours the same time every night to raid and that is what really happens with most raid guilds.

Oh yeaah, this thread is about raids isn't it.

The thing about the raiding system, is that you're not penalized if you don't do it or don't have interest in it. If you're not raiding and trying to progress through content, then you don't NEED the better gear in the first place.

There is 0 heat here, I am never going to agree with you, I find you particularly irritating as I am sure you do me. I find your posts condescending and pompous as you find mine offensive.

    Chalk and Cheese.

This is the type of thinking that I'm against. Nobody needs better gear, they want better gear. Somebody shouldn't be blocked from getting the best gear in the game just because they don't play the game in a narrow pattern like raiding. This is the flawed thought process that has ruined the end game of most MMOs for a large chunk of the player base. Allowing people to get gear faster via raiding is no problem at all, making it so others simply cannot get the same gear is not acceptable to a lot of players.

This is even more true when you add any sort of competitive content to a game like PvP and to a lesser extend group dungeons. A lot of MMO dungeons get so bad that people wouldn't allow you in unless you had raid gear at times. This is the mentality that could destroy GW2 for me if they implemented it for raids.

Why would you care about better gear if you're not raiding? You literally only need it so you can progress through each tier of raiding. It doesn't hinder your gameplay, you can still do normal dungeons and anything else in the world. I don't think I've ever seen someone say "You do't have raid gear you can't come do this NORMAL dungeon" that'd be stupid and if it really does happen that's not the systems fault. That's just people being assholes, which you'll never be able to fix.

As far as PvP goes, PvP gear has been seperated from PvE gear in almost every MMO in the past 5 years. Even GW2 seperates the gear (minus WvW).

I don't really see the issue other than people being stupid and wanting better gear which is meant for something they don't have an interest in.

Then make the gear raid specific and only usable in raid instances. You definitely cannot allow it in WvW. Stop and think of it this way, what if WvW handed out by far the best gear in the game and you had no interest in PvP? Would you be happy with someone saying you don't NEED this gear for PvE? Of course you wouldn't. What you are displaying is the elitist attitude that turns off so much of the player base in raid heavy games.

I've done the raid thing, I've seen how much of it is just centered around time put in and so little on skill put in. I've definitely seen the difference in how players are treated when they have top end gear vs mid range gear. To think nobody is going to care about your gear doing dungeons is more than a little naive. This thought process is exactly why they didn't put raids in the game in the first place.

Argue around it all you want but as soon as you say 'you don't need this, I do' you are being elitist. It is somewhat acceptable when that gear is completely useless outside of one area of the game but when you allow it to be used in other parts of the game it breaks the game. I wouldn't want the best gear to be obtained only from WvW and I don't want it to be obtained only by raiding. There is no reason it can't be obtainable by anyone with enough work put in.

I do not agree with this statement.

If raiders got better gear, that would carry over into pvp environments, giving raiders an advantage over others in them.
