I think you missed the entire meaning behind my post. Because Disney "made your childhood pretty awesome", you trust them? Sadly, most people do. They think that because they make good movies they aren't to be kept an eye on as a mega superpower that dictates what people read in newspapers, watch on TV, watch on the news, hear on the radio, read in magazines, etc etc. People trust Disney, tell me that's ok. Go head. Tell me that because Disney gives you warm and fuzzy feelings that it's ok for them to have nearly a Monopoly on what the public gets to see, gets to watch, gets to hear in the news, on the radio, and in the papers...
Show me person who thinks that it's totally ok for one company to dictate so much of what the public is exposed to every single day and I'll show you a fool. Or someone who has their head in the sand or is blissfully wearing rose colored glasses ...with Mickey Mouse on them.

All they did was buy another movie production company, I don't think they've hit the global superpower mark just yet.
Disney isn't a global superpower but it's a bigger and richer company than most people think. They control a lot of interests, particularly in areas where Disney Theme parks are located. That's because in those areas, they pretty much control the job market. And like any big company, they can be quite ruthless when it comes to doing business.
A few years back there was a big court case because Disney World in Florida decided that all male employees had to shave off their beards. I'm not even sure how that turned out, but it's the kind of thing only a big company could really hope to get away with. Small businesses who either can't pay as much or who don't control such a large number of job offerings have to be a lot more employee friendly to keep employees. At least that's how it was in stores I've run and I've run bigger stores and some very small ones.
Disney is like all big business. Their first responsibility is to their stock holders and that means they'll push the envelop on morality as far as they can.
In business and ethics classes you'll hear debate about free-market and fair market practices. Free market is what we have, where as I think consumers would be much better off with fair market practices. As far as I know, no big business embraces fair market practices.
Trust them with what, exactly? All I pay for is entertainment on an ocasional basis by my own will, lol. They've done things in the past that made me hate them, but that was because of Michael Eisner (their old CEO). Once he was replaced by Bob Iger everything changed. But what made me hate them has nothing to do with what you're insinuating.
It's true. A company will always be a company. But what Disney profits the most from is merchandising, followed by the movies and shows they produce. And they only make profits off those when they have quality productions to release. Which they've taken great steps to help talented individuals expand and grow their skills which is of course a means to an ends but everyone wins.
I'm not saying I support everything Disney does. But between Disney and Pixar, a lot of amazing things have happend.
For anyone that may be a little in the dark about how Disney has changed over the years, I suggest watching the Pixar story.
Friend of mine sent this to me. With the whole, new Star Wars movies thing and further expansion on the franchise and what not, I thought it would be fun to share. It made me laugh, at least.
I'll admit, that guy had a pretty good idea on what the first movie should have been. I'm pretty confident Disney will be able to make a good star wars movie. What I hope is it's a few decades after episode 6 and follows a sith (and some other people) instead of the jedi like in the other 6 movies. Disney was able to make The Avengers with Marvel, I'm sure they can come up with something amazing for Star Wars.

And hey, whatever Disney does can't be worse than episode 1![]()
