Well I was planning on spending about $400 with an intel build for Christmas, but the way things are going I realize that making a more reasonable build, price wise would be better. Granted $400 is a nice build, I still wouldn't be able to play GW2 :/

$400 may not be too bad a budget, what computer case do you have?
Also what power supply model do you have? Need the make and model of the power supply that is in your computer, how many watts?

Let me know the answer to those and I will let you know if you can get a reasonable computer for playing.

hmmm, ok nothing in your older computer is of any use except the hard drive and the perhaps the CD-Drive. I'm not even sure the case will work for you. An intel build at $400 won't get you playing the game. An AMD build with an APU may. Not going to attempt to make magic with $400, i already know an operating system is $100 alone.

Therefore, look around for a used gaming computer on craigslist or other forums. Find someone in your area that will sell you their setup they are upgrading. Then post the link (or IM me) and ill tell you if its worth it.

Well I still have the operating system on the HDD, so that will get me by. On top of that I get a copy of Windows 7 for about $19.99 since I'm in college and my college has a deal with Microsoft.

So I have a lot of the software figured out already, all I really need is a new motherboard (micro), CPU and Power Supply. I was hoping to get a build that I can upgrade later on in the year, so getting a few parts that will allow me to play Guild Wars 2 around Christmas time is fine by me.

OK, well then you are in slightly better shape. Don't be surprised if the case gives you some problems, factory cases dont always play nice. However, you can improv something.

I still would consider buying a computer from someone used, some people like to upgrade constantly. If not you will need an AMD APU, something that has enough graphics on the chip to get you going without a separate card.

edit: You can't move the hard drive to a new CPU/mobo and reuse windows. I'm sure you can manage from there, but just to let you know, windows won't work.... Vista sucks ass anyway

Oooh Butt Dicks....Yeah I should be fine lmao I dunno, this is really my first time upgrading my PC and I want to build a PC for the first time as well so I feel like I should purchase the stuff. But yeah, I will go with the AMD APU, then possibly buy a graphics card later on that will handle even more demanding games, This is probably one of the most demanding MMOs I've ever considered playing and I was surprised when I found out my laptop couldn't even run it. (Which my laptop runs Orcs Must Die on 60 FPS when recording.) But it's totally worth it, I wanted to build a PC anyways for better experience.

I did alot of looking and this is cheap and will put you in the game $227 But your power supply is very boarderline for this upgrade everything else looks good but you will probably loose the front card reader and audio.

Wow, I didn't know AMD stuff is THAT reasonable.

www.microcenter.com as well. Motherboard and CPU combos get a bonus discount. Zerks links are a nice build. See if you can get Windows 7/8 for $20 plus those parts.

Yeah lol, I will have to see when it's closer to purchase time. NewEgg is having a lot of Black November Deals so I can probably purchase ram and a power supply then and cut my Christmas purchases by a lot. ($100 at least)
