Everybody wants to make a human, apparently.

Here is an article about the racial statistics of players:
    http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/10/16/gu...rs-2-designer/

If you don't want to read it, the conclusion is that, by far, most people play as humans. The Charr and the Asura are the two least populated. So, this doesn't surprise me, but I guess it is a bit annoying. Let's make an MMORPG where there is no option to make a human!

That really surprises me - it seems odd to me that people play a fantasy game...and play humans. I like playing races that I am not (ie, pretty much anything but human), though in this game, I do actually have a human...who I don't play very often, and I only made her because I lovelovelove Queensdale, and the personal story line. But my other characters are a Sylvari (my main) a Norn (which is pretty much a human, but she's my ele, and that makes it okay), and a Charr, who, while I don't like the class much yet (Necro), I love the race. I doubt I'll play an Asura, honestly.

I can't blame you. Absolutely zero appeal to me as well.

But, unless I'm misunderstanding it, the graph shows that only 1/3 of characters are human.

That's a huge preference then, considering that there are 5 races. So for every 15 characters, 5 are human and the other 10 are spilt between 4 races.

Not very different from most other fantasy games, though. And not such a big deal, if there are enough people on your server. I find plenty of people in other starting zones to do content.

There are reasons though, why this might be. Just look at the Sylvari and Asura choices for character generation. My original plan was to have more Sylvaris but I can only make two I like the look of, one male and one female. Almost the same with Asura.

Charr have other problems for people, including a prejudice against them by Guild Wars 1 players where they were the enemy, a very slow run do to their size (they're not running slower but they feel like it) and even running on all fours.

Basically, the most options for character generation are in human and norn, the two most popular races.

Oh and with Asura a lot of the armor doesn't look right on them, which further limits what they can wear.

I have characters of every race, but when I go and make a new one, no matter how much I'd rather make another race, I seem to gravitate to human now, even though I like both Sylvari and Asura and even Charr better.

Oh and that's the other thing. Humans can be anything lore wise without a problem. I have more trouble making a charr guardian, or a norn engineer just because they don't seem to fit in my book.

well humans are pretty safe choice in mmos. and in gw2 they have nice racial skills imho (the one that gives condition to enemy, boon to you with very shrot cooldown and the fire dogs. ).

I'm not really surprised people gravitate toward humans, even in a fantasy MMO. When beginning a new game, I usually go human simply because it's what's familiar and I can often find a look that I like. More exotic races and creatures require more imagination for me in terms of both good looks and RP comfort. I'm guessing other players like going with something familiar, too, at least at first.

My first character here was a human but since launch I've added characters and have grown comfortable enough with the world and the lore to branch out racially. I now have 3 humans, 3 norns, 2 sylvari, 1 charr, and 1 asura. Though it took me awhile to really like my charr warrior, I since have grown very fond of her. People tease me that she looks like a golden lionness, but I love her look.

I wanted to see at least one version of each story race-wise and I'm finding my charr's story to be one of the most intriguing and enjoyable ones. Ditto my asura even though both of these races took some getting used to.

GW2 is all about weapon/armor looks. Asura are to small to really see armor or most weapons. Charr look ugly in armor. Plants are ok but I don't think they look as good as humans really. Norn you can see your armor choices and weapon choices, because they are so big. And well humans are just the perfect size.

I'm quite happy with that.I enjoy a game where the race I'm playing is not the majority.

In saying I think that graph will change over time.Pretty sure many will play human on their first few toons but I'm also pretty sure the percentages will change once more alt playing becomes prevalent and people are trying out variations of both class and race more. The majority, I'd assume. are playing their main or main alt 24/7 atm.
