    GuildWars 2 The downfall

I spent about a month lvling my first character, and I will say for the most part it was fun. The design team did a great job with the graphics and besides the occasional burp, game play is pretty smooth. The biggest downfall to this game is the dummying down of lvls. A person spends many hours lvling to 80, which by the way is uncerimonious, and then ventures off to a lower lvl area, only to get their butt handed to them by a lvl 11. Because of this, I will probably quickly loose interest in this game....nice try though.

Not to be mean, but if you are LvL 80 and you get your butt handed to you by a LvL 11 monster, then there is something wrong. Evaluate your gear/playstyle/skill choice, but don't blame the game.

I don't think he's literally getting his ass kicked by a level 11. I think he's just making the point that level 80 is meaningless if you don't one shot the little guys. I had the same complaint a while back. At some point it stopped bothering me though. You do have significant advantages as an 11 downleveled from 80 over an actual 11. Put it in practice and you'll see. Also, contrary to what I used to say, it makes sense. Think of leveling as unlocking all your abilities and traits and access to the world. Think, in real life would a bad ass street boxer "one shot" an inexperienced full grown man, everytime? No, there would still be a little challenge, and that's how it is in GW2. Don't give up yet man.

This is far from being a "downfall". In fact, I would say this is the complete opposite. The main goal of the leveling system is not to make you an all-powerful master of the universe, like in almost every other MMO ever made.

The scaling system is put there so you can go back and enjoy old content, while still having a decent challenge. It's also to prevent griefing to lower level players.

The whole point of this game is not to level to 80 as fast as you can. It's to enjoy content, old and new. If you're intention in this game is to max out your level and then expect to rick roll your way through everything, then this isn't the game for you. Nice try though.

Aye, it sounds typical really. I am happy a level 80 cant come back one shot everything just so he can farm, whilst leaving others with nothing to kill. Happened all the time in WoW. What is that attitude, some sort of childish show of strength. Its not like it isn't easy to kill stuff at level, its even easier at level 80. Maybe you are rushing into Bosses thinking you can down em. Shame, and a refreshing change.
I also agree with Hlindegar on his comparison to real life.

I've seen three methods of trying to prevent high-level farming in low-level zones:

    1. Ignore it. A high-level can trivially kill low-level mobs en masse. A pain if you're a low-level and the high-level is farming high-quality wolf skins or whatever.
    2. No loot drops from mobs much below your level. A high-level can still kill those mobs, but gets no benefit. A pain if you're a high level and can't farm those skins you need for crafting.
    3. Lower your effective level so the low-level mobs are still a challenge.

Of those, the GW2 solution seems by far the best.

ah, another person who doesn't get the genius that is down leveling.
Seriously, stop level watching and it won't matter.... I never notice when I'm down leveled because to me, it doesn't matter.
It's only a downfall to those who feel superior when they beat down enemies in one shot, which gets boring after doing it once.
If you enjoy seeing huge numbers because of how strong you are, then hit a rabbit or a no level animal like that, it gives you big damage which should give you the same pointless satisfaction.

Down-leveling is one of my favorite GW2 features. It's brilliant.

I think down-leveling is my favorite feature of Guild Wars 2. I hated the idea that in most MMOs the entire world becomes irrelevant and everyone is crowded into a few small zones. It's like a game company spends months or years creating a world, only to trivialize it, so that no one cares about that zone after they've left it. That to me is bad game design.

I can't imagine any other business that wants to write off 90% of it's content, and only focus on 10%, continually.

I like it too, even though I'm only at 50.It makes me think and play differently. It also means than the things I may leave to complete later on in the game like certain hearts, events, vistas, etc won't be a cake walk just because I'm max lvl.

I get some people dig that whole "godly" everywhere but endgame fix other games provide but I seriously don't think many would leave GW2 purely for that reason.
