Even on these forums, a lot of people who were against it at first have come around to see it as a benefit of the game, rather than a detriment.

I love this feature.
If you're level 80 with amazing gear, you're godly in low level areas, you really are. Champions (grp fights) will still give you trouble, but everything else should be easy. Yet just hard enough for exploring lower level areas to be fun.
I love that with my level 80 character I can still enjoy all portions of the map, and all dungeons. If I leveled a lot crafting I don't feel like I missed out on 5 or so areas that were suddenly to low level for me. This is my first mmo, and honestly I can't image a game where you aren't down leveled and most the map becomes obsolete early on.
I like the DL too. I have a max level character in another game and he doesn't bother going to low level zones unless travel forces it.
The DL'ing here makes you want to explore more whilst still getting experience and challenges that a non-DL'ing game would provide. Well, that's how it works for me at least.
I have one complaint with downleveling, its stopping me continueing my personal story. Not because I get downleved during the story scenes, but because I never get to them. My highest character is my human ranger at 26, her nest personal story is in the second human area. I start the evening with 2-3 hours gaming time available, so instead of using the waypoint to get to story I decide to take the slow route and walk, afterall, thanks to downleveling the content in Queensdale is still relavant. So I happily head out of Devinities Reach on foot, do a bit of farming, help out in the od event and clear the odd heart I have missed. Unfortunately by the time I reach the story point its time to log off for the night. I have done this a couple of times each time convinced that I would reach there in plenty of time, but I keep getting distracted. If I could just one shot everything in the area, I probably wouldn't bother to go on foot and would just use the waypoint and get it over with.
I hate downleveling and I firmly believe that would only be useful in PVP servers to protect noobs but if you are level 80, you should have nice armor and weapons and ELITE skills that should be enough for you to wipe them all even vets, maybe struggle a little bit if you get attack by multiple mobs, but you should be fine. (sometimes I have died)

But this IS the case. I can go and solo champions in lowerlevel areas easy. I don't PVE much but since I PVP so much and have a pretty good build, the lower content is now pretty much trivial. I think we're not downscaled enough, you think its too much. Its a delicate balance and they have to settle on something.
Heck (as an elementalist) swithcing to different attunemets does some auto attacks and I have rezzed players and while rezzing just kept swithicng attunements and killed whatever was attacking that player at the time. Never even clicked an auto attack. That's pretty OP imo.
I like go to lower areas and kick the buttocks of those mobs who owned me when I was leveling up. I would love to go back and go to those skill areas and one shot all those bastards who made my life a living hell, lol![]()

Possibly the only thing Vayne has written that I agree with.
I didn't like the down-levelling as portrayed in GW2, but as I've progressed through the game I find myself more and more not even noticing that I have been down-levelled. I focus on my actual level so that I can decide / choose when to change my armour / weapon.
Other than that I find myself enjoying the area I am currently in and ensuring that I am concentrating at all times. But let's not forget we also get up-levelled in WvWvW which is one big mess of chaos, confusion and crafty thieves trying to back-stab everybody, should have been called CvCvC.
GW2 is a bit like that song you heard the first time and thought what a load of pooh, next time you heard it you though, hmmm this is ok, then you heard it again and thought wow this is pretty darn good, then you heard it again and thought this is the best song ever and playing it over and over again 'til you got bored of it.
tl;dr GW2 = The Birdy Song[young viewers may wish to youtube this, I would advise against it]
PS Just bought a third copy of GW2, my wife and daughter also play. A lot less arguments about spending all the time playing that silly game

i love the apocolyptic title of this thread for only the reason of "Down leveling".
Sorry dude, I believe the downleveling to be the "Salvation" of guild wars. Love not being able to one shot lowbies. Even though, and I assume your not 80 in exotics because I believe I am too powerful in lower areas and still think myself a hinderence to players in those areas trying to complete DE's.
@anet, gotta make me weaker. Thanks!
