    Orbs removed from WvW! thoughts?

    Source: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/foru...upcoming-build

So what do you think about this decision?

Firstly I think the orbs were a nice prize to strive after on the boarderlands. The keeps with orbs were usually a place of constant excitement, as they were often the main focus of the enemy servers. What will happen to the boarderlands now? I mean most people already prefered to play on eternal battlefields (see the usually longer queues there), will that get even worse now?

However, I must admit that I found the whole idea of making a strong server even stronger through the orb buffs ridiculous and have always wondered why they thought implementing that was a good idea.
I mean if you watched the standings here at some point in the last weeks, you would have seen that many matchups were really broken balancewise, thus leading to one server having all three orbs most of the time, which further hampered the chances of the outplayed (and often also outmanned) servers of conquering something.

What do the other WvWholics think about this decision?
So, overall I think it's a good decision that this bogus buff is removed, but I don't really like the removal of the secondary objectives and hope they'll fix the hacking possibilities and bring them (or something comparable) back soon with some other incentive than a stat strengthening buff (could be extra points or stronger defenses for your keeps or whatever).

Well they said it was "temporary" and that orbs will be back most likely "in some form"...but they couldn't stop the people from hacking and stealing the orbs basically ruining many many matches and thus probably turning people off to the game. So I think it's a PHENOMENAL short term fix. As long as it is a short term fix. If in a month or two they come back and are much less hack prone as well as no so OP'd; perhaps giving the benefits that the outmaneed buff does while the outmanned buff gives some level of the orb bonus (as was suggested countless times on the official forum) I would be estatic.

Now I'm just milldly pleased and curious to see how it plays out. I defended the orb and fought for the orb many times (killed some orb carriers and even carried it on 2 occassions) but it was never something that drove my game play. My server generally doesn't have the orbs so Im always fighting with people that have 1-3 orb bonus and never on even footing. (I still win most of those matches but fighting 2on1 is that much harder) Now that it'll be even...it will definitely benefit ME personally.

Now if my server can get it stuff together and figure out how to beat the simple turtling formation (like I told them in chat many times) we should really enjoy WvW this week.

The last passage of the official post does make me less optimistic about such a mechanic being reimplemented any time soon. "at some point in the future" linked with "only after we are confident that they will not exhibit the sorts of issues that we see with orbs today." doesn't sound like we'll get them back anytime soon.

Ughh.... if this is true ._.

Is ANet really that new to this? They're soo inexperienced that they have to keep removing design choices because they can't stop hackers? Oi...

SERIOUSLY PSO2 is a F2P game and they do an amazing job of perma banning hackers that mess with their stuff. This is getting really stupid xD

Its true and they said it. But they also said they're working on it...and its better than leaving something broken in until they can fix it. Sucks they didn't have things in place to prevent it but I'm guessing why they can't fix it is because they have to focus on other things right now and this is an easier quicker solution until they can turn their attention to it. I don't want to make it a big deal and something negative when a company is at least TRYING to address issues and do the best they can. I have some gripes here and there but I'll def cut them some slack here.

Honestly, I think the orbs are a terrible idea in the first palce and they need a major overhaul before they come back in some different state.

I thought they were a fun mechanic but my Mesmer is already so awesome giving him 15% extra stats just means I got to run around with 3k+ attack, 50%+ crit, 98%+ critdmg, 2k+ armor, and 30k+ HP (26k HP in full glass cannon armor and spec).

I hope they give them magic find qualities or something so it gives us something to fight over keeps for but I'm glad they made this change. Plus it means a lot less whining from people because I killed them with "guild buffs and orb bonus". Like I need that crap to slaughter nooblets en masse..

    edit:
Also Fey, I agree that they need to actually ban the hackers but hacking is in pretty much every single game. I think simple editors like Cheat Engine still work for programs like WoW and Warden is one the best anti-cheat systems out there. The orbs were just apparently too tempting for would-be hackers and script kiddies. I don't see why they can't stop the hacks in the first place seeing as the programs and source are freely available.. whatever.

Do you know how much my elementalist hates you right now?

It's called a good balanced build... that gets a lot of everything. :P Mesmers are lucky. It makes it hard to play other classes.

It's funny.. I originally made a Mesmer because I heard how annoying they were to play and now it's all FACEROLL. How I play Mesmer: is that on cooldown? Use it! Clone dies? Do a backflip and get a new one. Anything caught you? Just turn invisible, they'll lose you in your clones.. and if they're too strong just stealth and blink around a corner and they'll NEVER find you. Haha.

See an elementalist or thief? See if you can down them in one combo!

But at least you don't have to worry about me building around the Orb bonus anymore.. maybe this will make me wear my old Knights/Divinity armor instead of my new Berserker/Scholar set.

I can't recall the last time I actually LOST to a mesmer...its just that often I can't beat them and then decide its time to get the heck out of dodge. (and its not like you can catch us....the one thing AN made us OP in is running away! ) I can kill a bad to mediocre mesmer but a good mesmer is just out of the league of an elementalist. Which is the only class I feel like that about. (I have trouble with condition built necros but that's becaues of my specific build but other than that, just mesmers)

Used to have an issue with thieves now I just laugh when they think they got the "jump" on me...then proceed to get my badge. If I can catch the stealth coward.
