    WvW my take

Have entered 4 times, never have seen more than 2 players around, no clue what the heck you do, no one around to explain what to do, just stood there for several minutes and went exploring, never found anyone to explain anything, one time found a bunch of people and they killed me, didnt know who they were and why they were attacking me, WvW is a big bunch of widollow woo.

I would like to understand what is all about but with no one around how can I know?

WVW is where your server fights 2 other servers for a week. The way you score points is by taking and holding points such as supply camps, keeps, castles, etc with each point having a different amount of value to them. Every 15 minutes (I think) depending on what you hold, the points get added up and added to your total. The team with the most points wins.

The guys that killed you were guys from teh other server. (sounds like your server might not be a big WvW server if there was noone there...but you may have just not known where the action is) It is VERY IMPORANT to be in organized groups and communicate wiith your server. Going solo is a very bad idea in the beginnig until you know what you're doing. I go solo about half the time now but thats not how you start.

There are 4 maps...one "home" map for each server and one very compact map with more keeps that's more of a free for all. (Eternal borderlands) which had more action and is mostly for "noobs" (though they don't know it) because it normally requires less strategy and thinking.

To assault a keep or defend it, you will need siege and supply. Never take supply (there are exceptions but as a general rule) from a keep and always froma supply camp...and try to have supply and siege on you at all times. If you're trying to take down a keep wall, having two rams hitting it is sooo much better and quicker than 15 players auto attacking it.

I'm not going to talk about orbs since they will not be around any more for a while.

So now...that's the basics...so what do you do when you log in? Get in team chat and ask "where is the action? Where am I needed? What are we doing?" and go from there. There will be commanders there with a blue icon you can see on the map...they MAY be a good person to follow...eventually after spending time there you'll figure out if they know WvW or are just somebody who could afford the title. Stay in groups early on for safety and to catch on to the game play.

You might need to tweak your traits also, what worked best in PVE might not work best in PVP.

I'm sure I missed much so feel free to ask any follow up questions.

Well thats Team Speak I belive you're refering too..I mean the chat uptions such as map, team, say...that you have in PVE as well. (little box in the left hand corner usually)....that's what I'm refering to. Eventually if you want to get reallly into it you will join a WvW guild and join whatever voice com they use. (vent, etc)

My way is to go WvWvW, press M, see all little dots going to x, close map and follow them. Once this has been mastered then it's off to explore and open POI, Vistas etc. After that then it's probably best to leave castle, go north and defend that supply store.

Don't bother to look at chat it's just a lot of angry people shouting at each other. Open map, see where nearest battle is to you (crossed swords) and head off there to join in.

Have you tried the Mists (sPVP) ? This helped me getting used to point capturing and is on a smaller scale 8v8 is what I go for.

Personally I don't play much PVP in either form (about 10hours total) but it's much better than the open world pvp of WoW.

This might be true but that just means you have a really bad WvW server. Chat should be for "Sunnyhill keep under attack. 20 enemies, 2 rams up, 6 defender here, no siege, we need help"...then peopel show up and farm those suckers for badges.

Plus commanders should be using it to coordinate some people here and there, but its INDISPENSABLE for letting your server know enemy movements. Hey, 7 SOS heaed to Gods Supply camp...will be there in 1 minute" and then people can get there in time, and even if there is a few of them with npc and possibly some siege, easily hold it, which is big esp if its an upgraded supply camps"

My server IOJ is a T2 server coming off a T1 matchup last week..so we're pretty decent so my chat might be different than your chat. But what chat should be used for is for very helpful information.
