Thread: What caster should I play?

    What caster should I play?

I've tried out all of the classes after playing for a week. Personally, the casters have been my favorites. I played the engineer that I asked for assistance about on here and didn't really like him. :/
I tried the necromancer up to 10 and LOVE HIM. I tried the elementalist and also like him but he's kinda squishy. But I love the versatility. The mesmer has really cool moves and I like the tactical approach to it.
So I was thinking, why not make a caster main? I just need help choosing one.
    Any suggestions?

Necro all the way...you just helped yourself out by saying LOVE HIM
Let your plans be dark and as impenetratable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.

Do the pets get less fragile and do I get more versatile moves later on though?

I have to agree with Neurobomb, Necromancer is, at least for to me, the best caster class. But we all have our different play styles and preferences.

For me Mesmer comes in close second, but only because I adore being a clothy with a great sword! hahah

As far as the Necromancer pets goes, honestly I know that most people don't use the pets. Right now the pet path isn't a very strong one unless you spec to be completely centered around your pets - and even then I think there are other paths that are much more enjoyable and powerful. I absolutely love my Necro but I never use the pets. I tried working with the pets for a while but felt that it just wasn't worth it.

I'm between necromancer and elementalist. Mesmer's third. :/
I like the elementalist versatility and the necromancer's general artstyle.

So what's your two cents on the two guys/gals?

To play elementalist well you need to understand, and effectively use, combos ... pretty much all the time. You also need to learn how to use active defense/short-duration boons or implode, and you need to move well. Currently the "glass cannon" ele just isn't really that effective because of of its really terrible base survivability, so if you're leaning toward that, then I wouldn't bother.

Don't have much experience with necros, but they're much, much easier to survive on without speccing for it from what I've seen. Ele has a pretty steep learning curve initially but plenty to keep you busy (I struggle with other classes for long because they get boring). It really depends on whether you're willing to put in the time to learn ele well -- and form a solid build, because traits have an absurdly large impact on performance -- whether I'd recommend one (and there's still plenty about mine I don't use like I should).

Yeah. I haven't died once on my necro, except when I fell off of a cliff. The death shroud just really helps a lot in survival.

Hate threads like this. What the **** do you care what complete strangers think? Find what you prefer, and play it.

^Hey man! What's up? How about you get the heck out of this thread if you're not going to contribute. I like people giving me advice. That's what I came here to look for.

Also, are mesmers any good with melee?
