HELP: Which profession would be better suited for me?

Hi all, not sure where to post this but i figured i'll ask here.

first of all, i just got gw2 and with 8 professions to choose from, im having a hard time contemplating on which would suit my playing style better.

in every game i play, i always base my character on these following attributes:

    1. speed. it is of the essence (most important)
    • movement speed
    • attack speed

    2. swords. all kinds of swords (2h sword, 1h sword, rapiers, katanas)
    • im a sword fanatic, i cant live without a sword. (no daggers tho, they arent swords)
    • usually i'll be dual-wielding instead of using a 2h because it is faster in most games
    • in the event there is no swords, i'll be using guns. but that is highly unlikely unless its a FPS. but it seems there are pistols and rifles in gw2.

    3. offence is the best defence
    • dislikes using the shield, unless there is no choice but to. (game restrictions)

    4. male
    • i like to roleplay as my own gender
    • no bulky or old looking character
    • human
    • i prefer to dress in style / dressed to kill

so based on this, i did narrow down the choices. All races are out except Human. For professions, its either thief, mesmer, warrior or maybe a guardian.
i've been wondering whether a thief would be better suited for quick dual-wielding swords/pistol or a dual sword mesmer.
some input and profession build recommendations would be greatly appreciated. :>

Sword/sword warrior isn't bad, but I personally prefer sword/axe. When my guard uses a sword, I generally like going sword/torch.

While thieves are probably the "fastest" profession, due to intiative instead of cool downs, they're probably not the best sword profession.

Warriors, Guardians and Rangers can all use both one handed swords and great swords. I think rangers in this game might actually surprise you, since their sword skills are centered around mobility. You get five character slots. Why not try making one of each.

Just remember, this is a very different game from others, and you might try unlocking all the weapons to give yourself a bit of flexibility. Warriors for example, sometimes have to go ranged, but with the weapon swap your swords are always a touch of a button away.

i noticed that mesmers can dual wield 2 swords as well. why hasnt anyone mentioned anything about them? are they just bad with swords?

I would wager it's more that most people don't play them. Mesmers are the least played profession at the moment and their sword abilities are't standard "sword" stuff. a Mesmer with a greatsword is a long-ranged cannon. Dual wielding 1h swords with a mesmer gives you two direct attacks, a block and two illusion summons. One of those is a clone/leap ability and the other is a phantasm.

I Love my mesmer, I play him pretty much exclusively with a Greatsword and Sword/pistol.

i have chosen thief after much thinking.

but i have a question. how do i increase the movement speed of my character? are there any passive/active skills or items that does that?

There is a signet what gives you passive 25% movement speed increase and then there is the other skill what gives you "Quickness" making your skills faster for a while, also a trait what can proc the same skill.
I see their pain. On some level I even understand their pain. I just can't feel their pain.
