Son gets "double mines" but I dont.

Totally perplexed by this one, and cant have anything to do
with bad luck.

My son and I run the 3 zones for orichalum and plants for the past
month. We are in the same guild, both level 80. Literally 1-2 times
in 10 he gets to double mine/pick a node. Im assuming this is because
of the WvW gathering buff (or guild buff). Just 5 minutes ago, I watched
him mine 6 orichalum ore from a normal mine.

Heres the thing, Ive NEVER gotten extra ore from a mine, or bonus
on plants. Literally never. And Im talking hundreds of times in the past month
or two. I make sure to double check every one too.

What am I missing? We in same guild with same buffs, so either my luck
is impossibly non existant or its a bug. I wanted to see if others have seen
same thing before I post on arenanet forums.

This happens with me/my husband. He gets far more doubletaps than I do, but I have gotten them once or twice. Unfortunately it seems to just come down to luck.

Has anyone experimented to see if magic find has anything to do with it?

Could he be using higher picks, like black lion picks that you get from black lion chests?

Not sure, but in theory I should be doing better than he is because I often use the boon duration/magic find food (mostly for the boon duration, lol, but still) and his magic find chance is lower.

I honestly think that certain characters just have better luck than others, as I'm an alt-aholic and I've been studying the drop rates and types as well as other random stuff like node finds, and find one or two of my characters are FAR more lucky when it comes to that sort of thing - so much so that it can't be just "random good luck". For instance one of my characters found two rare dyes before she was even lv 12 and that luck continues to hold true still, many levels later. Others of my characters haven't even found a single rare dye yet.

2 weeks ago, my Engy, who is my most lucky character by far (which is why I usually end up leveling her more) found Abyss dye, last week she found Black dye, she also got 3 exotics in the Labyrinth during the Halloween event in less than 40 minutes, as well as a Halloween weapon skin the following day. Most of my other characters don't even come close to that level of luck. One of my characters is almost lv 30 and hasn't even found a single rare or even an uncommon dye, and the type of armor and weapon drops she gets ...laughable.

I really think Anet set it up somehow so that certain characters have better odds at getting higher quality items. Leveling so many different characters and seeing the difference in the types of drops each character gets, I honestly think that. Though what is the determining factor in a character's luck is something I've not figured out yet. Perhaps it's totally random when you make a character.

Both of use use the exact same magic find food, and the exact same picks. The only different
variable is different character accounts of course.

I agree with above poster, in that I suspect more than just "dumb luck." We ran the three zones
today and it happened twice for him over 12 ori mines, and me zero. This is actually the every day
occurrence in which he sees it at least once, and Im still waiting.

Just figured Id see if other people saw this as well. Personally, not even whining about it just
convinced its more than luck.

Yeah puzzling question but I'd say it comes down to luck unfortunately :/

Well did figure out the ONLY difference, and Im stretching. I use the F key
to mine, and he double clicks the mouse to mine. Going to try this out, weirder
things have happened.
