Thread: How I feel about Orr, what about you?

  1. #11
I think the reason I like Orr so much is because it reminds me of

It's definitely no where near as hard as that. But it's got that same kind of feeling that if you mess up you'll be in trouble. Obviously now with gear it's not that bad but initially, it was pretty refreshing to see that kind of challenge in a random zone in an MMO no less. Not even a dungeon or anything, just an open area with tough stuff to fight.

Meh, to me Orr feels more like bullshit fighting game AI cheese than rewardingly challenging, lol. There are particular events and things I like, but then one leads into water and I want to take my ball and go home.

Basically I think just being juggled so much makes me nerdrage. I don't care if I never die because of it, it's still annoying. :B

I lol'd. Reminded me of the SF2:ST computer.

It's really not that Orr itself is challenging, more like unforgiving. I suppose more than anything else it feels like all of the hand holding is completely gone in that zone. Which is what Dark Souls is. Completely unforgiving.

Been playing Orr for a few days with friends, and although it can be annoying at times, I make enough money to make up for that :_) There's definitely some bs events there though, just artificially hard stuff that I could do without. I also prefer Frostgorge, but then again you don't make nearly as much, and I need my Vigil armor at some point.

I think they did a good job making it what it was supposed to be, which is an unforgiving area full of "zombies", and not the old school Dawn of the Dead type, but the newer 28 Days Later type of rage virus zombie. I think it's intentional that most people run through it like they do. The cannons constantly firing, the small settlements that are temporarily safe, the escort missions - all adds to the survival feel of the place.
It's a love/hate relationship for me. Sometimes I do think **** YEaH I wanna jump in and kill kill kill stuff, others I tire of it and like Ruse said, head to Frostgorge for a more relaxing experience.

Yeah, I agree Cariad/Fey. It's definitely unforgiving and sets the tone for the place. I just have to do it in limited doses.

Orr could use better places to cuddle. Those jagged coral reefs and ruined buildings leave marks

I don't really think you're supposed to "live" in Orr or spend all your time there. I think it's something you visit to get the mats you need to farm, or to farm some events. It's not necessary for you to go there, except to complete the last dungeon.

In general, I don't love running Orr alone, but with a friend, it's a lot of fun. Though it can be soloed, I'm sure it was designed more to encourage group play.

As for drops, aside from magic find, there's also bonuses for grouping in this game, though I'm sure Anet did a lousy job of letting anyone know that. You get better and more drops when you're in a group even with just one other person than you do solo.

I'm pretty sure the majority of the community is probably aware. It's kind of been the unspoken standard for most MMO's.

The majority of the community <> the majority of players, unfortunately. And there are a lot of people for whom Guild Wars 2 is a first MMO. Mind you, I've met a whole lot of people in every MMO who seem to know next to nothing about the game they're playing. Forum goers are not the rule, but the exception.

Sure, many forum goers would know...but most players I'd wager wouldn't.
